JFC. There is no way that I am sending my kid to a college campus that uses anything even remotely like this.

@kcarruthers I could send my kid to college with guns which would lessen the concern over the robots but raises other potential issues. 🤓

If you believe the guy who just got convicted on 34 felony counts should not be the President of the U.S. there are lots of things you can do between now and November to help ensure that he doesn't get elected again.

If you have time to write letters to prospective voters, here is a great project: https://votefwd.org/

If you don't have time but have the financial means to contribute you can find some good suggestions here: https://www.bluetent.us/

Feel free to share other suggestions.

Very much looking forward to the debates to hear the following:

"I know you like to keep calling me Corrupt Joe Biden, Donald, but there's only one convicted criminal on this stage right now, and it's you."

Sure, "science," "peer review" and "consumer protection" are great and all, but have you considered that no one has yet invented a powder as medicinally powerful as Allen's Foot-Ease circa 1902?

Big Pharma is to blame, I'm sure. 🤓

For those of us from or living in the U.S., here’s a great World War II-era short film which reminds us on this Memorial Day that we shouldn’t throw away the America our parents and grandparents and great-grandparents fought (and in many cases died) for by giving in to messages driven by prejudice and hate.

Also a very good one to share on other social media networks you may be on (hint, hint). :emoji_wink:

Not being tracked by Google is nice but visiting YouTube while not being logged in to any account is not a good experience - the stuff that's getting pushed generically is truly horrifying.

And FWIW this is still far better than "The Wall of Targeted Ads," "The Wall of Nazi," and "The Wall of Self-Congratulatory Professionals."

Here's another program that looks really good (h/t @judell for the info) for anyone wanting to get more involved between now and November to help make sure TFG doesn't get elected again:

Stop worrying about what TFG will do if he gets elected and start worrying about what you're going to do between now and November to make sure he doesn't.

If you haven't figured that out yet you really need to get on it. :blobcatcoffee:

The secret to being a successful Silicon Valley tech CEO appears to be (1) surround yourself with highly competent people who can cover for your ineptitude and assclownery; (2) have a group of high-powered VC funds on speed dial who can rescue you if your highly competent team revolts; and (3) try to get to be as big as possible (extra bonus if you can secure U.S. government contracts) so that the regulators/politicians leave you alone.

EDIT: I forgot (4) make sh*t up and lie constantly.

I reckon Copilot+ PC is going to be a product that an entire class of professional just simply can't purchase or use for work. Thinking of , , etc.

Surely the "features" will be able to be disabled, but can anyone reasonably trust that?

For those who aren’t aware, Microsoft have decided to bake essentially an infostealer into base Windows OS and enable by default.

From the Microsoft FAQ: “Note that Recall does not perform content moderation. It will not hide information such as passwords or financial account numbers."

Info is stored locally - but rather than something like Redline stealing your local browser password vault, now they can just steal the last 3 months of everything you’ve typed and viewed in one database.

@GossiTheDog Maybe there's more going on behind the scenes, but other than the OCR, what part of this has anything to do with "AI?" Or is that Microsoft's way of trying to put an already questionable color of lipstick that its shareholders like on a really ugly and dangerous pig?

Hi, Fediverse:

Whew. I finished this week's blog post. Do your thing, Mastodon.

https://terikanefield.com/beware-the-lawyers-follow-up/

It's a follow up from last week, answering some of the questions and comments I got.

In response to people telling me that I am overestimating the ability of people to decode legal news, I attempt to prove this hypothesis:

If people stop listening to legal pundits speculating, they wouldn’t feel confused and they wouldn’t think they need help from lawyers decoding the news.

@Teri_Kanefield Great post and this sentence right here cannot be said enough:

"Beware of someone who confirms your biases and asks you for money."

Especially when that person seems to spend the vast majority of their time on social media.

I'm voting for Joe Biden in November and intend to continue donating to help him get reelected because: (1) the U.S. is in much better shape now than it was under the former president; and (2) many of the things that could be better (e.g., the makeup of the Supreme Court) are a direct result of the last president being in office.

No caveats.

No "even though..."

The rest of you can vote however you like, but my mind is made up.
