Ate at a breakfast place this morning that only carried Tabasco; for a brief moment contemplated becoming a guy who brings his own hot sauce to restaurants. Is this how getting old begins? #cooking#breakfast#restaurants#HotSauce#old
@billyjoebowers It's probably about different people have differing palates. To me, Tabasco just tastes like vinegar. I do like the Tabasco chipotle variety though. There are many other things that are, to me, more flavorful that go on everything. I haven't tried Melinda's before, I'll give it a whirl.
As bad as the Arizona decision looks on its face, in the context of the history of the law makes it much, much worse.
"The law that Arizona will use to outlaw abortion care seemed designed to keep men in the chaos of the Civil War from inflicting damage on others—including pregnant women—rather than to police women’s reproductive care"
Boy can regressive-right judges be bad at history...
@joeinwynnewood Look, the law is repugnant, but Richardson gets a lot wrong here. Arizona territory was created during the civil war and needed laws. Howell put together a comprehensive set of laws borrowed from existing laws of other states. It had nothing to do with trying to regulate civil war men specifically. The Howell Code also created a county recorder office for example 🤷♂️. The AZ abortion law was taken by Howell verbatim from already existing California pre civil war law.
#Arizona is getting well-deserved hate today. But how did we get here? There are actually many, many people in #AZ who do not like what is happening (Hi! I'm furious!).
In 2022 AZ legislature passed a law that said if Roe v Wade gets overturned then AZ has to revert back to the 1864 law. The AZ S. Ct. said "well what you wrote is pretty clear so we have to follow that; if you don't like it then just pass a different law." #abortion
There's much to be horrified about with the now re-animated zombie Arizona abortion law that effectively prohibits abortion under almost all circumstances.
But I'm curious about why this law came about when it did. It was passed in 1864, at the height of the civil war. Arizona was claimed by, and fought for, the Confederacy. Did the legislature suddenly think, "hey, we're about to lose slavery, let's pass a law to make things worse for women to make up for it"?
@mattblaze 1864 was the first year that Arizona published a code of laws for the territory. Literally all of the laws of Arizona were formed at that time. The laws were borrowed from New York, California, Mexico, and Spain. Check out Lincoln appointee William Howell and the Howell Code for more detail.
Yay! Finally, the vehicle won't start at all... rather than being intermittent. New starter or cables needed, likely. Has been spotty for months, but neither I nor my mechanic had been able to diagnose it since it was so intermittent. Intermittent car problems are worse than car problems. #carrepair
@steter@ai6yr You’re lucky! Last starter I had to replace for intermittent issues, the replacement somehow broke the teeth off my flex plate in one spot making for an even more involved repair.
This is a crazy high sanction, especially for something morally just. My takeaway from this article is more evidence that #bankruptcy judges have wild powers. #law#legal#lawfedi#church
Ah yes, the old law school hypothetical no one believes could happen. There's no perfect solution in these cases, just enough exchange of money to make everyone walk away unhappy.
"Property owner stunned after $500,000 house built on wrong lot"
tesla owners finally complaining about some of the cars' features bc apparently your spouse can watch your car's progress on the app at home and see where you stop. you can even see which seats are being used so "both backseats" suddenly registering on the "heat map" is giving away the cheating lol
"This year’s RBG Awards will go to entrepreneur Elon Musk, actor and filmmaker Sylvester Stallone, lifestyle expert Martha Stewart, philanthropist Michael Milken and media mogul Rupert Murdoch."
@thomasfuchs For sure. I guess my point is that further bans by China may not affect much. I am sure first amendment organizations are chomping at the bit to go after KOSA and TikTok bans
It's easy to jump to conspiracy theories, but I think a lot of people don't understand the mental stress of being a litigant - especially the central witness. It looks like Barnett was subject to multiple days of deposition questioning, which is very stressful.
I think it is a disservice to mental health to assume Barnett's passing must be nefarious.
The craziest part of Deadspin getting sold is that it was purchased by a company so new and mysterious that its website appears to have only been put online on Thursday.
@ernie Fair. Though you could argue if the prior owner was willing to sell on a whim with no prior notice and fire all staff in the manner it appears to have been done, then they were in danger anyway.
I liked the old Deadspin. The new one was okay. I'll probably check out the next iteration too. But it's not the same.
