Koren Publishers has just released "The Madwoman in the Rabbi's Attic" by Gila Fine. The book focuses on how the women mentioned in the #Talmud are more complex than we think at first reading ~ the book finds early #feminist views of #marriage sex, childbirth, and what it means to be a woman buried within the Talmud.
We are looking forward to the last #Innsbruck#Gender Lecture of this study year: Tatjana Takševa from the Saint Mary’s University in Canada talks about "Tracing the Maternal through a #Transnational#Feminist Perspective"!
-> Wednesday, 22nd of May at 6pm, Hörsaal 5, GEIWI, Innrain 52e @uniinnsbruck
"We call ships 'SHE'. We call our war machines 'WOMEN'. We compare women to black widows and vipers. And you are going to tell me it's not 'lady like' to scream, fight, take up space, and demand whatever the hell I want?
Don't try to down play my power."

#MarleneDietrich#Asian#Revolutionary emulated #portrait shot by my fellow photographer friend, Jamidi. I only allowed Jam & 1 other photographer pal to take portraits of me. Shot at Jam's home in #VictoriaBC, 10 yrs ago. I just have longer hair & few extra face wrinkles now. Still have my 'fuck the system' & 'fuck colonialism' stances.
A #FeministDystopia movie I watched this week (by happy accident!) was Swallow.
Incredible, beautiful artistry, direction, acting, sound, color, everything, in this film. Haley Bennett was truly extraordinary as the lead. I prefer her performance to any of this year's Oscar nominees. She held me completely in suspense the whole time, bizarrely relatable.
Highly recommend watching this one, even if only for its spectacular ending!
Für die Deutsche freunden :
Es gibt eine neue besetzt Kino in Frankfurter Bornheim: das Berger Kino, von eine queer-feministsischen Gruppe, wilkommen! Bitte gehen Sie sofort :)
Emma Goldman, U.S. anarchist, #feminist - compelling advocate of free speech, the eight-hour work day, and birth control, was arrested in New York City on Feb. 11, 1916, just prior to giving another public lecture on family planning.
She was charged with violating the Comstock Act, an 1873 statute banning transportation of "obscene" matter through the mails or across state lines.
At the time, federal courts interpreted the statute as prohibiting distribution of #contraception information.
#MuseumsWithoutMen launching today, aims to continue the #feminist project of bringing women's work (& other excluded groups) into the sight of gallery goers & those interested in #art.
This builds on decades of work by Feminist art historians, but Katy Hessel, is right much remains to be done.
Since C15th #women#artists have often been celebrated in their own time & then written out of a male-dominated #arthistory which still shapes #museums' collections & hanging.
also a #videoGame enthusiast, mostly #survivalCrafting but down for anything but sports and realistic shooters, mostly. Also dabble in #tabletop#TTRPG s and other board games but it's hard to find the right balance between "boringly easy" and "so complicated I get too frustrated and give up before the first role of the dice"
#neurodivergent especially #ADHD and "high functioning" autism (I love to carry on conversations and try my best not to do all the talking, but I have a hard time reading peoples' true emotions so I default to thinking everyone's mad at me all the time 😂 )
#queer#polyamorous#bisexual , pro- #sexWorker though not a sex worker myself (despite all my videos getting categorized as "sexually explicit nudity" 🙄 )
love watching movies and shows about #fantasy#sciFi and #horror -- #psychologicalHorror and/or so-called #elevatedHorror rather than guts and jump scares. I used to read a lot of fantasy and romance also, but social media broke my brain so I have a hard time staying focused on books now 😩
also love #comics especially #webcomics and #satire . Not really into superhero type comics, unless they're the newer ones like the "New 52". I prefer self-contained series with a little bit of weirdness to them like Saga, Rat Queens, and a bunch others I can't remember the names of right now. Often I'll go to the library and check out a fat stack of whatever comics they have, mostly standalones though since they rarely have multiple comic books in a series available in sequential order.
Oops I got too wordy again, better cut it off here 😅
Basically, holler at me if you're a progressive, a gamer, or a parent who is also one or both of the other two things!
Hmmm.... so a film made by men, starring men & about a man working to produce a deadly weapon, wipes the floor with a film, made by women, starring women (mostly) & exploring #feminist issues at the #BAFTA last night.
Yup, nothing to see here... just the boys network celebrating itself.

It saddens me (but does not surprise me) that Barbara Ellen can write this piece about men's difficulty dealing with successful #women in 2024.
My late mother (a #feminist who worked hard to give women the choice on conception, among other things), would have been profoundly disappointed that Ellen's points still hit home two decades into the new century.
#Sexism & (often denied) male jealousy of #female achievements should have been banished to the dustbin of history!
Looking for stories of women evading marriage and society by living freely on the move. I know this was a thing in the US, but also curious about elsewhere.
I taught my first class sessions of the semester this week, and in person! We discussed institutional and systemic #racism, black #feminist thought on classroom community, etc. And it's a science teaching course. The students (very diverse ethnically, linguistically, etc) were engaged and excited by our discussions. Which makes me feel like we're gonna be OK in the future.
I'm, glad I don't work at an insitution of #HigherEd in FL or TX. Equity and justice are the foundations of teaching and learning.
Cheap Perfume is a #feminist#punk outfit that is also funny and political! With anthems like, "It's Okay to Punch Nazis." I love the way Stephanie and Jane layer their vocals over one another.
