3 years ago today, Donald Trump and a violent mob tried to overthrow the will of the American people and cancel 81 million votes. He did so in the midst of a pandemic that he let get out of control and an economy that was in a catastrophic state.

The most documented coup attempt in all of history yet the Republicans are still willing to deny it in service to their own need for power. I am sickened by every one of them.

Every time this young woman is detained and/or arrested, 20 years of Catholic education clang in my brain like medieval bells.

She is both prophet, and martyr, to the greedy fossil fuel industry that is quite literally killing the Earth and most of its life. Ms. Thunberg isn’t driven by religion or ideology as were her predecessor martyrs, but by the reality of #ClimateCrisis
havoc that technology and consumption have wreaked.

Exactly like all prophets before her, she is hassled and persecuted and her planet-saving efforts hamstrung by “authorities,” who will be as dead as the rest of us in the end from fires, floods, famine, pollution, and ecological collapse.

If we survive to have a future, I hope there will be a Nobel Prize or other significant acknowledgement for her clarion voice and efforts - even if awarded posthumously.

I can’t believe it took me this long to figure this out, but there are really a lot of people with loud political opinions who’ve never done any actual organizing.

Like have never attended a town hall, or a petition gathering convention, or gone door to door, or done even some shallow discussions with anyone, let alone some deep, years long dives. Not gone to a borough meeting or a planning commission hearing or a school board meeting.

Never gone to a march. Nada.

I really hope that changes.

What I resent the most — as voting rights, healthcare rights & equality diminish, our planet burns, the anti-VAXX movement grows, books are banned, immigration reform is sidelined, gun violence rages, truth in the media drowns in bullshit, and our foundational democracy quivers in the evangelical MAGA storm — NONE OF THIS IS DRIVEN BY THE TRUE MAJORITY OF AMERICANS.

Republicans aren’t a majority.
Oligarchs may have the bucks, but they number fewer than 1000 (735 billionaires in the US in 2023).
Mega-corporations may drive the economy and #ClimateCrisis but they don’t yet vote.

WTF? I think I could be more sanguine about this existential threat if I were the odd person out…but I’m part of the real numerical majority. Are we (Democrats) allowing this lurch toward fascism & white “christian” nationalism?

If we are, we’d better wake the hell up, and soon.
