The constant low level on here is nauseating.

I know I've only recently started to recognize it and I apologize to my Jewish brothers, sisters and family here.

@philip_cardella Thanks for saying that and not tying it into something else. Some of it gets pretty high level.

The Austin City Council passed a massive housing bill that dramatically cut the minimum lot size down, changed buffer zones, encouraged more density near transit, and more. This will directly lead to more affordable housing.

Austin’s City Council includes 3 alumni of Run For Something: Vanessa Fuentes, Paige Ellis, and Zo Qadri. Elections matter. And so do people stepping up to run.

Good news from the Port of Cleveland, which in addition to its electrification plan is adding solar panels. If you have experienced that area's compromised air quality, you know that reducing fuel emissions at the port is a major win and moves shipping in the U.S. further in cutting emissions.

The project is possible due to President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act.

Though I'm a practicing I welcome any religious or non religious person who loves humanity and wants to do good for all of it. While my dad was very sick last week that he passed we welcomed people from protestant, Catholic, Muslim, Jewish and Hindu traditions to pray with us and they did.

Not out of desperation but out of solidarity in love.

We welcomed thoughts of atheists as well and were grateful for their solidarity in love for my dad.

Millions of Americans live within one mile of an abandoned coal mine or an orphaned oil and gas well. These sites are environmental hazards that pollute backyards and community spaces.

Interior announced a nearly $55M investment in ND and WV to plug wells, address hazards, and create good-paying jobs.

@philip_cardella Wow.

Yeah, there are so many of them and the companies/corporations built towns around them or just opened them up on previously untouched lands that were in parks or other public spaces and then when things started going the other direction, the people can’t exactly afford to just move or later generations live there because of a lack of better affordable housing.

TonyStark,
@TonyStark@progressivecafe.social avatar

@Barbramon1 There is so much more to do on the topic and I’m also glad that President Biden and Vice President Harris keep working away

It’s really important to have the right people in the President’s Cabinet, too. Michael Regan is Biden’s EPA Administrator. He is doing an excellent job. But there are also 10 regional EPA Administrators around the country. The President appoints them, too.

For example, Trump’s Region 5 admin was uniquely horrible and water quality diminished in the area.

TonyStark,
@TonyStark@progressivecafe.social avatar

@Barbramon1 Region 5 covers Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin.(Great Lakes states.)

So I hope voters there are paying attention to things like this.

@dnavinci @isotope239 Feel free to explain 1, how to get a defunct company to pay and 2, why the people affected should wait around with the junk in their land, air, and water in the meantime.

This is what good government does. Thanks.

TonyStark,
@TonyStark@progressivecafe.social avatar

@HeatherH One answer would be that we strop letting Republicans run the government.

“The national political situation isn’t helping. Obama-era regulations targeting methane emissions would have cut down on the venting, flaring, leaking and other emissions, but the Trump administration, driven by its “energy dominance” agenda, eviscerated them before they went into effect, calling them too burdensome.”

There is no such thing as the Judeo-Christian tradition. It is a figment of the supersessionist imagination. It is a term meant to co-opt Jews and Jewish history into a narrative to give legitimacy to that narrative. It is a term that erases and . Everyone should stop using that term.

TonyStark,
@TonyStark@progressivecafe.social avatar

@robbienorlyn @antonia @serge @littlemiao Mostly I’ve heard it from right wingers trying to impose some sort of “morality” on the allegedly non-moral people they don’t like.

is a term that attempts to allege a harmonious history of European Christians and Jews. This has no basis. Europe has a long antisemitic history, obviously.

Jews have a longer history of living in harmony with Muslims than they do European Christians. The idea of a “Judeo-Christian” culture is ridiculous.

The number of U.S. oil refineries exceeding the EPA's action level for cancer-causing benzene in 2023 was cut in half compared to 2020.

These are the kinds of regulations Trump and his minions want to scrap. The very first executive order of Trump's presidency was to relax regulations governing dumping mine waste into rivers

Elections have consequences.

I’m no fan of libertarians anyway. Trump’s hardly one as he’s an obvious fascist. But both Trump and libertarians have no interest in helping anyone but themselves.

Relentless booing aside, my favorite part was when he told crowd -- with zero self awareness -- that they can't let "the worst President in history come back and finish the job" of destroying the country.

(all from yesterday, but that counts.)

  1. holiday weekend, and I already knocked out the (very smol) work I'd promised to do, so now I can relax the rest of the day (already relaxed yesterday).

  2. Excellent day yesterday, along with a nommy sushi dinner to wrap it up.

  3. Made it to level 25 in Wanikani! Now manga is waiting for me, and google translate is helping a LOT. 😁

@chiasm I am! I had a nice day yesterday outdoors biking with the family for a couple of hours and we have a new rescue pup at home. It’s very sweet to see him and our older pup hanging out.

Today will include gardening and reading on the back patio.

That’s a great sum up!
