'In modern children diagnosed with ADHD, the genetic mutation generally correlates with restlessness and distractibility. And in those Ariaal children who had settled into sedentary Western behaviours, the gene was linked to poor health and distracted classroom behaviours. But in those Ariaal who still practised a traditional nomadic life, the gene mutation was linked to strength and better nutritional health.'

'The team then saw Rakus chewing the stem and leaves of plant called Akar Kuning - an anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial plant that is also used locally to treat malaria and diabetes.

The #Navajo Nation voices objection to obscenely rich private individuals placing #humanremains on the Moon:

'...the President of the Navajo Nation, Buu Nygren, has filed a formal objection with NASA and the U.S. Department of Transportation over what he calls an act of desecration. "It is crucial to emphasize that the moon holds a sacred position in many Indigenous cultures, including ours," Nygren wrote in a letter dated Dec. 21. "The act of depositing human remains and other materials, which could be perceived as discards in any other location, on the moon is tantamount to desecration of this sacred space." '

#Israeli language/education academic, #NuritPeled-Elhanan, who lost her daughter to a #Palestinian suicide bomber, speaks on how Palestinians 'do not exist':

"To annihilate people, you have to dehumanize them. and convince your own public and your taxpayers that they deserve it. There are several stages to do it. Zygmunt Bauman wrote about it in relation to propaganda against the Jews. But it applies to all propaganda and dehumanization of people.

"First of all, you abstract them. They do not exist. Palestinians do not exist in Israel's consciousness, in Israeli culture or in Israeli education. They are nothing more than a kind of very remote, amorphous enemy: danger, threat, terrorism.

"In all Israeli textbooks, and there are hundreds of them, you don't find a single photo of a Palestinian human being. Racist cartoon depictions of Ali Baba on a camel are found, primitive farmers following oxen or terrorists. Never a teacher, a writer, a child... Nothing. So they don't exist. They only exist as a threat. Now, as a threat or development problem, as they say, or demographic threat. You have to confine them. You have to distance them. And this legitimizes the occupation and the military occupation and the military government and so on.

"So since they are such a terrible problem, why not kill them? Why not eliminate them? Bauman calls it the gardening metaphor. He says that, on the path to a perfect nation-state, the state is treated like a garden. You have to pull out all the weeds, and they are the weeds. I think - and now I jump to the next book - when this is accompanied, this is accompanied by a very aggressive education and traumatizing about the Holocaust in Israel that serves to perpetuate revenge. But revenge is not against the Germans. We are friends of the Germans. It is against the potential exterminators who are the Palestinians. If you listen to the Prime Minister's speeches on Holocaust Day, they always link Palestinians - and Arabs in general - with the Nazis. So children at the age of 16 go to Auschwitz and Treblinka wrapped in an Israeli flag, and they return full of fervor, full of fervor to kill."

Miriam Keo was among 11,000 people displaced by devastating wildfires on Hawaii last August:
"My outlook changed during the pandemic, but the fire was the last straw for me … I don’t want to serve tourists any more. This isn’t what our ancestors would want,” said Keo, 40, who recently resigned from the hotel after 16 years to work at a composting company. “I want to be a better steward for my people and Āina. I want to show my kids that there’s an alternative to the corporate tourism we’ve been under for so long, and food is a big part of that.”
