@Teri_Kanefield So sorry to hear you were hit by someone who had nothing better in their life but to drag down a person who's been doing good.
All I can say is I've learned a lot from your comments and I hope you will be able to keep on giving your perspective on what this country is going through now.
McGovern: The gentleman keeps talking about crime in DC, crime on the rise. I can tell you one thing, crime is definitely down in The White House right now
@mastodonmigration@rbreich I'm not so sure how much he has debased society as put the most 'deplorable' side in a spotlight and told them that giving him money will earn them ... something. We just don't HEAR the bulk of people disgusted by his actions.
The mail settings got screwed up somehow on my mom's iPad and she went into the Apple store to get them to help her reset it. They told her, "Your iPad is too old, mail is no longer supported on it."
@jwz That's also the case for our older iMac. We're still running 'Sierra', but can't use Chrome, Apple Mail, or a number of other services. At least it gets us using a lot more OSS software than we would, otherwise!
@gvwilson I'd agree with this - even if neither is a 'computer science' problem, they need to be taught in all fields, and many computer scientists are slow to realize the need.
I suspect that's true for most fields, but why not address it now?
Does anyone know of a way to buy an EV that doesn't relentlessly spy on the driver/passengers and send the data to whoever the carmaker feels like selling it to?
Related: Does anyone know of a service in the Bay Area that will disable all the surveillance that was, without my knowledge or permission, built into a 2008 Prius?
@dangillmor I have an even older non-electric-engine car, a Saturn, with OnStar. That service is always on and police have gotten warrants to listen to your private covnersations in the car. The only cure at the time was to unplug the antenna. I suspect the only answer for you is the same, but I can't promise the manufacturers haven't attached some horrid penalty to not being able to update.
“#Montana#GOP Senate candidate says he lied to ranger about gunshot wound in 2015
Tim Sheehy was cited for illegally discharging a weapon in a national park but says he made up the gunshot to cover up a bullet wound he received as a Navy SEAL in Afghanistan that he never reported to superiors”

@GottaLaff Before I even noticed it was from a GOP member, that sounded unbelievable. Given it's from one, I'm pretty sure it's as factual as a Trump tax statement.
I am still getting hate mail for my blog post, this time from a neighbor. She was so angry it took her a few days to calm down enough to write to me (in all caps!)
(I shut down comments yesterday)
When I wrote analysis for the Washington Post, I sometimes got angry email from MAGA people.
I did get a memorable letter from a librarian in Tennessee who was enraged at how I portrayed Andrew Jackson in one of my books.
@Teri_Kanefield I admit to staring at the reactions you get, puzzled at why. But then my cynical side that believes in the love of 'my 15 minutes of fame' shouts 'of course!'
Please, please continue plugging holes in our human vulnerability to being programmed. Preferably by doing civilization rather than reverting to hermits in caves.
BREAKING: #Washington State agrees to end its durational residency requirement for voter registration. A civil rights group filed lawsuit arguing that the law disenfranchised voters who move to Washington shortly before an election and violated the VRA.
@GottaLaff Not knowing a thing about the law, but the short description makes me wonder if this will encourage large groups to move to Washington for a short time just to influence their elections?
From the responses, it's clear I'm missing something. Can you spare any pointers, please?
@GottaLaff Thanks, anyway. I've been looking at other sources, and they all point out how hugely rare voter fraud is. I'll have to blame my own paranoia!
@dangillmor There just needs to be a few more companies using AI to handle their customer support - and mistakes from the system costing them millions.
@GottaLaff What I want to know is at what point will enough people in this country realize that these people are playing them for the benefit of nobody but their own friends so that they will be voted out en masse.
🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ #RNC considers move to make #Trump presumptive nominee
“While Trump would still need to reach delegate requirements necessary to win the nom, if the resolution is approved, he’d have access to RNC’s data operation, benefit from fundraising w RNC, & have support of all of the committee’s ground ops. It would also mean the committee would be supporting Trump & effectively opposing Haley – an unprecedented break from party’s past approach to nom process”
@GottaLaff It's pretty clear he wants a 'democratic' election like in North Korea or China. At this point, I couldn't vote for anybody who's a part of the Felon party for any office, including Dog catcher.
The Supreme Court has rejected ex-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin's appeal of his conviction for second-degree murder in the killing of #GeorgeFloyd
@Teri_Kanefield I'd expect him to fundraise off of it, personally. It doesn't matter how much he has in assets, it just goes into his bag of grift (and illegal use of political donations?).
Thanks, however, for keeping track of this. There's so much burnout with anything Trump-related that it's frightening - and planned for.
@GottaLaff A lot of people won't agree, but from all I've seen, this is really no big deal. They've removed all the contaminants they can, and what remains is at lower levels than companies all over the world are already free to release.
The only problem is that it is radioactive. Probably less so than someone's granite countertops, but radioactive is a word that scares a lot of people and which has been used to influence mobs for years.
BREAKING: Three #Trump-appointed judges on the 11th circuit just cited the Supreme Court's ruling in Dobbs that overturned the right to an abortion in their decision allowing #Alabama to ban transition-supporting care for #trans youth. #LGBTQ#legal
@Teri_Kanefield I worked as an unsecured contractor once, for a company that also dealt with secure data - there were tons of procedures for getting me access to the machines I was working on.
Anyway, they told me that the proper way to dispose of their hard drives included sand blasting the platters.
@eddie1perez Either he's too dumb to tell the difference or it was on purpose. I suspect the latter - especially from someone who justified reinstating Trump with an argument of 'Free Speech'.
