@rbreich The only thing likely to radically alter the election at this point would be if either of these old men suffer a catastrophic medical problem -- something not out of the question for either one.
This is the first election in my lifetime that I think was over before it started. I'm not sure in which direction, but I think the vast majority are locked in.
Maybe not, and therein lies the real tragedy of Donald Trump. He has so debased our society; glorifying lying, cheating, thuggery and stealing, that a felony conviction may be perceived by his supporters as a net positive.
The psychic damage he has wrought is profound. We are seeing the breakdown of civil citizenship as large segments of the population emulate his wretched conduct. Not sure how the nation recovers.
You are probably right. Yet, that's what civil society does. It keeps a lid on the rot. People operating lawfully and respectfully isolate and contain those who would upset civilized order. What Trump does is provide these folks with a hero that gives them the permission to act up. He's the Pied Piper of miscreant behavior.
It would take literal generations to recover our fragile democracy, integrity of the rule of law, and honor under NORMAL conditions. Factor in #climatecatastrophe that will decimate our economy for disaster relief, uncontrollable death & forced migration due to famine & unlivable conditions, the collapse of the food chain beginning with marine life, and we’re finished as a civilization.
What exacerbates the situation is intentional genocide fueled by the fossil fuel industries’ and other mega-corporations’ greed, effected by stupid pawns like Trump.
@mastodonmigration@rbreich I'm not so sure how much he has debased society as put the most 'deplorable' side in a spotlight and told them that giving him money will earn them ... something. We just don't HEAR the bulk of people disgusted by his actions.
Fair enough. Feel like we are in Act 2 of a high school musical where the bullies and rich kids are taking over the school. Just hoping for an Act 3 where the nerds, stoners and a few of the jocks team up and rally the entire student body to send them packing.
