I looked out of the kitchen window and saw something large and strange on a neighbour's roof. I took my camera, looked more closely and, wouldn't you know it, it's the Black Stork!
I immediately went to the house to take some photos of it on the roof. It really doesn't care about people at all.
The owners hadn't noticed it either. They only came out because they saw us taking photos.
It's Superb Owl Sunday in the US, and I would normally post a picture of an owl. But I heard that Swifts were more in vogue this year. So here are some cute Chimney Swifts, awaiting their 15 minutes of fame.
From yesterday: "If every single person would make a 10-foot by four-foot space and dedicate it as a pollinator garden, a bird garden or whatever it is, with native #plants, then we are doing our part to put the diversity back." https://www.texasobserver.org/texas-native-plant-tips/
Learning how to be hawks 😍 I’m not sure what happened to their mother but these three hawks, who hatched in my pine, seemed to be left alone to learn everything about adult hawk life. One of the three decided he would teach the others and it was the most adorable thing to watch. Here they are attentively watching a lesson. #backyardbirds#birdwatching#birds#raptor#hawk#nature#wildlife#birdphotography
Sharing a few of my favorite roseate spoonbill pictures throughout the day. I really was amazed by the huge wingspan!
Roseate Spoonbills are medium-sized waterbirds with a football-shaped body and long legs. The long bill that is flattened into a spoon at the end protrudes from their small head.
For #MustangMonday we have the handsome young stallion known as Gideon, from the south Onaqui range. He is part of a rough crew of young bachelors who are regularly stirring things up, so this quiet pose in special. He is a powerful and formidable 4 yr. old.
Where we used to live, I'd put things on the back deck to photograph. Then this happened...this is one of the many Douglas squirrels that visited us there...
The Great Blue Heron stands tall with a majestic presence. Slate blue plummage, long neck and dagger like bill add to its charm. Eyes are focused on every movement as it gracefully wades through the wetlands. Its elegance has made it a subject of art for the ages.
