I’m Daniel! I’m a gay cisgender male, and I use he/him/his. I’m finishing up a bachelor’s degree, with two majors in #asianstudies and #japanese#linguistics! In the fall, I will start working on my master’s degree in Japanese studies! In my spare time, I make music with #synths and #DJ! I also enjoy #anime and #videogames (JRPGs typically) ~ 💖✨
Four [#native#languages spoken by #tribes in #Sarawak are now #extinct according to the national literary & cultural agency Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka.
Sarawak director, Abang Haliman Abang Julai, said that according to #researchers the #Seru , #Pegu , #Bliun & #Lelak languages were now no longer in use.]
I write fantasy novels with a touch of science fiction full of deep, immersive worlds, powerful characters, and magic that’s as organic as running or speaking. I draw a lot on #ecology with my secondary world setting, and I re-imagine traditional fantasy, building each culture from the ground up including #linguistics .
My stories often feature fierce sibling relationships, found family, strong friendships and light in the darkness.
What won’t you find? Very many swords, kingdoms, or knights.
🙋♀️ Re-#introduction to everyone new and old on the fediverse: I'm a professor for digital forensic linguistics at Ruhr-Uni Bochum. I work on social media data using corpus and computational methods. 👩💻 Current projects deal with #emojis, #disinformation, linguistic #variability and common ground, and #metaphors.
🐈 I will fav all your cat photos! #linguistics#nlproc#socialMedia#rub
This is the official account of the Association for Diversity in #Linguistics - Diversität in der #Linguistik e.V.
We were founded with the aim of promoting #diversity within linguistics. Diversity here means the promotion of diverse perspectives in linguistics & as diversity among linguists.
We are located in Germany and are thus somewhat focused on the German #linguistics landscape. Nevertheless, we value international connections and welcome members from all over the world.
It's been months since I wrote something for Strong Language (the sweary blog about swearing). Finally researching a new post, on the phrase "swear like a trooper" – or a sailor, trucker, etc. There are so many variants, and more in other languages. But it's a fun one to dig into. #swearing#idioms#language#linguistics#research#amwriting
If you speak a #language other than English, and it has an expression equivalent to "swear like a ____", referring to a specific occupation like sailor, cart driver, etc., let me know! I've gathered a few examples, but the more data I get, the better. #linguistics#languages#swearing#profanity#research
I just moved to a new instance, so here's a new #introduction
I'm the host of the Grammar Girl #podcast. You may have hit my website searching for something like "semicolons." I love #writing books, #teaching online courses, and I founded the Quick and Dirty Tips podcast network.
I'm Joanna. You might have known me on twitter as joannamuses. I live in Melbourne on the lands of the Kulin Nation.
I work in banking deceased estates (which is a stressful and morbid way to make a living) but am interested in a bunch of other things. I'm obsessed with #eurovision, get a lot of joy out of trashy dance music and have been getting into #MusicalTheatre lately. I'm always interested in non-fiction #book recommendations. I post quite a bit about things happening in #Melbourne and love discussing what might make this place better. I'm an amateur #photographer, mostly of #architecture and cute animals (instagram links in bio). Long walks through Melbourne make me happy. I'm also currently trying to learn to speak #indonesian
Some other interests I probably won't post that much about but would be interested to follow discussions on are #christian#theology and spirituality, #linguistics and Indigenous history and culture.
:heart_sp_bi: Hi, I'm Clarissa; I write #queer#sciencefiction and #fantasy (and in-between things) as C. C. S. Ryan. You can read some of my short fiction online, but my focus is novels.
I also enjoy #drawing and do #graphicdesign, from book covers to theatre posters - follow me at @wintersweetdesign for art!
Currently I live in (upstate? central?) New York , because California was too expensive to survive in.
My name is Ștefan (ș being sh or s if you’re English), 20 y.o., ♑, he/him, leftist and all that. I’m sadly living in Romania, I’m an undergrad in computer science and I’ve tried waaaay too many programming languages.
My usual speciality is programming, I prefer functional programming (and Lisps such as #scheme, #commonlisp and #elisp sometimes), math (mostly real analysis, calculus, number theory and geometric algebra).
I'm a graduate student in #archaeology, studying ceramics in particular, and I am fascinated by world #history and #linguistics and always suffering under that grad school life.
I'm an avid reader and sometimes #writer of #sff#scifi. Lover of #filk. I love space, robots, and speculative worldbuilding best.
#queer, #asexual, and down to find other queer and asexual writers & fans!
My #PhD at Osnabrück University 🇩🇪 was in applied #linguistics/English language teaching and I'm now a postdoc research fellow at the Centre for English Corpus Linguistics (CECL) at UCLouvain 🇧🇪. I like all things #CorpusLinguistics, #LanguageTeaching & #OpenScience! 🤓
I also work as a freelance conference interpreter (🇫🇷 🇬🇧 🇩🇪), spend far too many hours on trains 🚄 and like tea 🫖, cake 🍰 & emoji! 😇
I am a professor of linguistics at the University of Washington, where I run our Master of Science in Computational Linguistics. I work on computational approaches to syntax and the syntax-semantics interface, the role of #linguistics in #NLP, and on the societal impacts of language technology. On social media, I spend a lot of time debunking #AIhype, for which I find linguistics very useful!
