So #Kagi is now partnering with #Brave, i.e. the company of Brendan Eich, who has been CEO at Mozilla for eleven days before he had to leave due to massive criticism of his homophobic views. Brave's most well-known product is a browser with its own cryptocurrency, co-designed by Eich.
A feedback post asking Kagi to reconsider has been closed by Kagi's founder Vladimir Prelovac because "Considering company x founder political views is not a factor in [their] evaluation".
#BraveBrowser is installing VPNs without users' consent, even if you didn't willingly enable their #VPN service. Just stop using #Brave, it's garbage.
Edit: the services are disabled by default, but they were still installed with very little to no transparency about them towards the user, alongside all the other stuff that's often unwanted from Brave users (Pocket on Firefox is to blame too, lol.)
Three days ago, the 4th of November, would've been #KHTML 25 year anniversary. 🥳
Hoorrray!
WTF is KHTML?
Chances are you are kind of using it, because #WebKit and #Blink rendering engines are all forked from this open-source project originally intented for the browser of the KDE window environment.
I use Mozilla Firefox with uBlock Origin and Privacy Badger, and I have NO ads. -- Anywhere.
You cannot use a chromium based browser and expect no ads. Chromium is designed to defeat ad-blockers. It's why if you install uBlock, not all the options are available. -- It is also why you sometimes still see ads on YouTube or run into the anti-ad message.
Almost everything #Brave does is shady and unethical not to mention most of the people that work there (including it's creator) isn't LGBTQIA+ friendly.
"If someone recommends #Brave to you, you should ignore them, because they are wrong. #BraveBrowser is a mess of a software project, and the company building it is even worse."
Somewhat inspired by @theprivacydad's most recent blog post, here's a list of privacy-friendly software that "just works" about as well as (if not better than) more invasive alternatives, even for the relatively non-tech savvy:

Ich arbeite an einem (sehr) ausführlichen Artikel über Browser. Dieser wird auch eine Tabelle mit empfohlenen Browsern enthalten. Anbei eine Vorschau. Die Tabelle wird sich sicher noch ändern.
I just got to thinking this morning... I keep hearing about all these awful things like FLoC and Manifest V3 in #Chrome because Google's gonna Google and then I sip my coffee.
Why? Because I use #Firefox and for the rare times I actually need a Chromium-based browser, #Brave.
@mozilla gets a lot of flak, and while some criticism might be valid, I'm just grateful that someone works hard to not spy on me.
Sheesh, Mozilla has really lost their way. Putting ads in the search bar? We already have a search engine that does that, we don't need two running at the same time.
@cuchaz
I mostly use #Brave now (with the shit turned off) because #Firefox was degrading in performance and stability, and became unusable on my cheap mobile. For now that's ok.
That #Mozilla are doing this is very sad. I am though hopeful better days are coming, with new ecosystems based on #p2p that will bypass the enclosure and unleash the next generation of openeness & creativity.
I'm literally working on a demo to publish and browse websites on #Autonomi, so it's not just work thinking.

The Brave web browser has carved out a niche over the past few years as an alternative to Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and other mainstream web browsers. Some of that has come from its marketing as a privacy-preserving web browser, and it has also been repeatedly evangelized by cryptocurrency enthusiasts.
