Burnt Out. Terrified. Lonely. Took the money to keep quiet. quite old or actually old? #ActuallyAutistic. please ignore my posts as I'm an idiot in a bad place ( apart from pix of animals and food ).Like a beautiful walk in the park and then you feel a dog turd squish underfoot. oh but also warning as I'm a curmudgeon in the wild.

How much alone time vs socializing do you need?

For me there are a few people who are usually equalizing, and I can just be around them, so I won't count that. But generally, I find about 3 times a week, I'm game for socializing. A day in between to rest is usually nice, but the larger the gathering or if we go somewhere particularly noisy or I'm meeting new people that involves more effort, and my social battery empties sooner. I'm very curious where everyone else falls on this!

@RickiTarr I am also very conscious of the science that shows that lack of communication with other people is a predictor for dementia ( along with sleep problems and alcohol which I also tick )

@RickiTarr for me sadly at 62 it's been impossible, sarcasm and dad jokes only gets you so far until I do or say something wrong, a life wasted and not worth living

An EU-wide #RightToRepair has been adopted by the EU parliament with 584 votes in favour, 3 against and 14 abstentions. The directive now goes to the council and after it is officially published, member states have 24 months to implement it in national law.

And yes, smartphones are included. #ThanksEU

@jwildeboer so wondering if this will apply to cars, as in the UK I'm seeing spare parts shops closing and garages closing as the car makers are making it harder and harder and more and more expensive to fix cars. It's also having the side effect of causing massive inflation on car insurance even if you don't own some Tesla type shit

As it got harder for users to leave online services, it got easier to abuse users."

[second EDIT: there are now official reports of major floods and storm there this week. But this doesn’t mean this footage comes from there, this week!]

@RickiTarr I started doing this and turned out was the early days of going deaf, in my case high frequency being lost so lost the ability to tell the difference between Ts and Ss for example and so went from fast thinking brain doing the translation to my slow thinking brain having to translate the noises hence the delay and covering it responses, later I lost more and more.

I remember being a kid, and having the realization that the money the government has is our money, and how weird it is that people act like using social services is taking advantage of the system somehow. We are the system, the people embezzling money through the "defense" budget are the people taking advantage of the system.

    peterainbow,
    @peterainbow@mstdn.social avatar

@RickiTarr in the UK right now by government "we need to spend more of defense" also in "those I'll and disabled are dragging the economy down we need to stop helping them"

Truly and honestly, I have a great time here, because you all make it great. You boost, you reply, you encourage, and inspire! It is crazy to me that I get to talk to people from all over the world every day. I get to be friends with people I'll probably never actually get to physically meet. I was born into a pre-internet world, and this still feels a little like a miracle to me.

Some people have really dug their heads into the sand over A.I.

Regardless if you intend to use it or not, others will. Regardless of who it learns from and if that's ethical, it is simply not going anywhere.

Instead of hiding from reality, get active and make sure your local, state, and federal politicians know that we shouldn't take A.I. lightly and that there needs to be more restrictions and safeguards.

Face the things you fear before the things you fear face you.

"As Mitchell points you, it's not just Amazon that flouts this rule. We don't know how much money Google makes on Youtube, or how much Apple makes from the App Store (Apple told a federal judge that this number doesn't exist). Warren Buffett – with significant in hundreds of companies across dozens of markets – only breaks out seven segments of profit-and-loss for Berkshire Hathaway." Interesting reading on @pluralistic article on Amazon https://pluralistic.net/2024/03/01/managerial-discretion/#junk-fees

@pluralistic "Of course, there's an easy way to settle the argument: Amazon could just comply with SEC regs and break out its P&L for its e-commerce operation. I assure you, they're not hiding this data because they think you'll be pleasantly surprised when they do and they don't want to spoil the moment." Is anyone in the EU or UK ( stifles a giggle) looking into this?
