Oh my good FCKING GOD.
Friend in the UK who has just been on a CRUISE posting that she has "caught a cold on the plane on the way home" but that she had a bit of a sore throat on the ship which she put down to the air conditioning. Several others travelling with her also have "a cold".
We are in YEAR FIVE of this fvcking PANDEMIC people.
IT'S NOT A COLD.

@kaffando @dave but they are travelling in a hugely carbon producing way with the climate crisis right here and now and you're surprised? It's the same denial, I'm guessing you hadn't seen that, so maybe now you can see it?

I, a total stranger, was thinking of befriending your kid, but before I did, I thought I'd ask you, are they a boring, selfish jerk?

It's fine if they are, I'm just really trying to find quality people to be friends with, so I thought I'd ask you, is your kid a dick?

Wait, don't get offended! How are people supposed to know whether to hang out with your kid if you can't answer a simple question?!

@pluralistic I'm mean I get it, I don't know how famous people cope with interacting with all.of us weirdos, must make the existential angst even worse, but you are by posting this shouting to 54000 or so people saying let's have some fun picking on this guy for being odd. You having a bad day?
( Speaking as a stranger who u don't know and is also an idiot )
Probably will regret this and it's sending my anxiety through the roof, but that's me, I should just get off social media shouldn't i

I just made a phone call.
It was regarding something relatively straightforward and simple to sort out and I was on the phone for 37 minutes. Most of that was on hold.

As soon as it ended I burst into tears.
I am exhausted. My neck and back are agony from the tension. I’ve got a headache and I feel sick.
It took about 30 minutes to stop shaking.

I wrote my speech but they interrupted, trying to get me to do security questions first.

But I did it… yay?

peterainbow,
@peterainbow@mstdn.social avatar

@purplepadma @Troggie yep and they outright refuse to make accomodations and that includes the NHS sadly. Ironically funny not funny my last psych video phone call ( aaaaarrrrrrggggghhhh ) went so badly wrong and then he discharged me because reasons.... Then he wrote a defamatory report which I'm having to go through GDPR to get removed, complaint went nowhere as he was a contractor and they not using him right now

Please note red wine bottle now empty and whisky engaged, sadly orphan black not engaging me enough so far

peterainbow,
@peterainbow@mstdn.social avatar

@johne see above re whisky so no idea, watching on itvx , echoes or jessica jones not sure lols

peterainbow,
@peterainbow@mstdn.social avatar

@johne yeah it's more about me than the drama, not a critique, I'll watch anything to try and distract my brain, I usually watch junk ( eg the rookie, I know right ) when in this state as it usually ruins good stuff. I'm definitely rolling down hill right now

peterainbow,
@peterainbow@mstdn.social avatar

@johne also now getting a little triggered by the dodgy psych and it's also got fricking adverts.
So this whole streaming thing has been a way to get round us recording dramas and ten skipping over the ads that have zero chance of getting me to buy something

Noticed today: the number of people who are on a phone call, but think they're in an episode of The Apprentice, weirdly holding their fondleslab horizontally in front of them.

peterainbow,
@peterainbow@mstdn.social avatar

@ianRobinson @DMLeathley on my stupid phone the speaker is at the bottom as well as the mic, at least when on speaker phone mode, so maybe that's why? Note I don't do this in public as mainly not out in public

I have just had a message from Microsoft on my Windows 10 desktop that all support is ending for Windows 10 on October 25th.
My computer isn't compatible for Windows 11, even if I wanted it.

I am only moderately tech savvy, so I'm very nervous about installing Linux Mint ( recommended by quite a few blogs etc). Where would I find tech support if it goes wrong?

Edit: muting this now as I've had such a good response from all you super people.

#Windows10 #Linux #LinuxMint #NonTechSavvy

    How much alone time vs socializing do you need?

    For me there are a few people who are usually equalizing, and I can just be around them, so I won't count that. But generally, I find about 3 times a week, I'm game for socializing. A day in between to rest is usually nice, but the larger the gathering or if we go somewhere particularly noisy or I'm meeting new people that involves more effort, and my social battery empties sooner. I'm very curious where everyone else falls on this!

    peterainbow,
    @peterainbow@mstdn.social avatar

    @RickiTarr for me sadly at 62 it's been impossible, sarcasm and dad jokes only gets you so far until I do or say something wrong, a life wasted and not worth living

    peterainbow,
    @peterainbow@mstdn.social avatar

    @RickiTarr I am also very conscious of the science that shows that lack of communication with other people is a predictor for dementia ( along with sleep problems and alcohol which I also tick )
