    Right-wing provocateur Andy Ngo has just succeeded in deplatforming the legal defense fundraiser for antiracist protesters being unfairly prosecuted by antisemitic San Diego DA for defending the community from nazis. The new fundraiser is here, please share! https://givebutter.com/protest-defense-sandiego

    Twitter is actively blocking all links to any article that names Hans Kristian Graebener as the infamous neo-Nazi comic artist Stonetoss. Several Twitter accounts have been suspended for simply tweeting Graebener's name.

    @evacide We really need a consumer guide for cameras...I have heard some good things about HomeKit-enabled cameras (like Eufy) and the privacy that comes with HomeKit, but I haven't seen any real attempts at putting claims to the test.

    With all of these Apple Watches and other wearables with pulse-ox sensors, shouldn't we have collectively lots of data on what fentanyl overdoses look like to a wearable?

    I wonder fentanyl OD looks distinctive enough to a wearable to enable a safety feature or an app to alert friends?

    @brianvastag It could really help when the person in the next room has Narcan

    @dgfitch I think there's a use case to be made for people who live in close proximity to each other, at the very least.

    @CoastalCoasting Yes, I know a lot of opiate addicts who are relatively wealthy, hard-working people. You'd never know they used 3-4 times a day. Secondly, there are a lot of people who die from fentanyl poisoning who are not addicts, many of whom don't realize their drugs are contaminated with fentanyl.

    chadloder,
    @chadloder@kolektiva.social avatar

    @CoastalCoasting One "good" thing about opioid overdose is that rescue breathing by itself (if you don't have Narcan) can keep victims alive for hours if necessary (if you can keep it up).

    Tucker Carlson sent racist text rooting for an "antifa kid" to be lynched to death.

    “A couple of weeks ago, I was watching video of people fighting on the street in Washington,” Tucker Carlson texted a producer. “A group of Trump guys surrounded an Antifa kid and started pounding the living s**t out of him. It was three against one, at least. Jumping a guy like that is dishonorable obviously. It’s not how white men fight. Yet suddenly I found myself rooting for the mob against the man, hoping they’d hit him harder, kill him. I really wanted them to hurt the kid. I could taste it.” https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/03/media/tucker-carlson-text-message/index.html

    Some early observations about Bluesky:

    • People are having fun. People clearly missed using Twitter to shitpost.
    • There are no norms yet. Nobody uses content warnings, nor is there a built-in feature for content warnings.
    • Nobody uses alt text. Nobody gets scolded for not using alt text. Right now, Bluesky seems like a nightmare for blind and low-vision people.
    • It's eery to see known abusers on Bluesky who I've had blocked for years, without the ability to block them.
    • It's only a matter of days before violent right-wing accounts like Ady Ng show up on Bluesky. They WILL be allowed on, and they WILL build large followings, and the content moderation and privacy tools of Bluesky are not yet up to the task.

    chadloder,

    @objectinspace @changeling @Natanael_L They should be paying you for your accessibioity testing. @caseynewton @mmasnick It's worth an early analysis of Bluesky from an accessibility perspective, because right now they are making accessibility an afterthought.

    chadloder,
    @chadloder@kolektiva.social avatar

    @mmasnick @objectinspace @changeling @Natanael_L @caseynewton Reminders help; it's norms that really make the difference though. People need to see it as a moral and ethical issue for it to stick.
