Excellent piece on the British roots of the conflict in #Palestine and the impact of colonial “divide and rule” strategies here and elsewhere:

“In British India, they pushed the Hindu-Muslim divide, sometimes favoring one population, sometimes the other. In Cyprus, they pitted the Greeks against the Turks. In Sri Lanka, it was the Tamils against the Sinhalese. In Ireland, it was the Catholics against the Protestants. The list goes on.“

The Israeli government should immediately end its total blockade of the Strip that is putting Palestinian children and other civilians at grave risk.

    Israeli President Isaac Herzog claims Palestinians are collectively responsible for the Hamas attacks and says civilians could not have been unaware of the planned attacks.

    I strongly disagree, because even the Israeli intelligence service Mosad did not know.

    The Israeli army has issued an order for the immediate relocation of 1.1M Palestinians from northern Gaza to the south in 24 hours. The UN has categorically condemned this order.

    Forcing 1.1M people, including 550K kids, to evacuate in 24 hours or be bombed to death is even more cruel considering THERE’S NOWHERE TO EVACUATE TO.

    We need a ceasefire.

    The response to war crimes against civilians cannot be more war crimes against more civilians. I’m horrified that this is a controversial take.

    As a kid I was scared of the dark.

    One night, my mum asked me what was scaring me and I mumbled something about ghosts or monsters coming at night.

    "Oh don't worry about those," she said. "The cats chase them way. That's why they're awake when we're asleep."

    I've loved that idea ever since. That at some point ancient humans and cats struck a pact:

    We feed them and provide them with places to snooze in daylight. They protect us from the things that lurk between worlds at night.
