This fine creature kept me company while I was eating dinner by a stream last week during my #backpacking trip in the White #Mountains, #NewHampshire. It just hung out on my boot while I enjoyed the sounds of the stream!
Here is a 360° panorama captured by Curiosity at her current location, with North at center and South at both ends, on top of two large and small scale maps with her position.
There are many geological features in the panorama, can you find them in the maps?
Avalanche Peak part three: the way down. Quite cruisy through Scott's track, watching this crazy Devils Punchbowl waterfall that was definitively worth a peek, despites the extra hiking time at the end of the walk. Absolutely mesmerising, one of the most beautiful waterfall I saw in Aotearoa. #hike#hiking#mountain#mountains#waterfall#nature#Canterbury#AvalanchePeak#Aotearoa#NewZealand#NZ
Phone night shot passing Consultation lake and Mt Irvine (it hid the full moon until Trail Camp). Before there was enough reflection to just use the red headlamp. Turned it off here and climbed the rest without a light including the snow chute which was in moon shadow. No wind, surreal quiet.
View from the south to the Vercors plateau, Drôme, France. In the middle ground you can see the curved 'barre tithonique' (solid limestone of Upper Jurassic age). Behind that is the Lower Cretaceous limestone of the Glandasse (2041 m), which forms the edge of the Vercors plateau. #geology#fridayfold#foldfriday#france#alps
@studiohaverstraat Also seen : "la dent de Die" below which Romans used to carry large carved blocks from Plaine de la Queyrie down to Die during the 2nd and 3d Centuries. And in the background, the "Grand Veymont", 2341m. Turn around and you will see the Saou perched syncline, one of the highest ! #MyOfficeViewIsBeautiful#Mountains#Drome#Vercors
I think I found the secret hide-out of Dr. Evil where he is planning his world domination from. I can just image that the round door slides into the mountain and some rocket with super satellite gets launched. 🚀
When many people think of #Phoenix, they think of endless suburban sprawl. And, certainly, that’s part of the story. But here’s something that many are surprised to learn:
Four of the five largest city parks are located in metro Phoenix
The magnificent ridge of Beinn Alligin in Wester Ross, seen from the south across Upper Loch Torridon. It is the most westerly of the three great mountain masses of Torridon, the other two being Liathach and Beinn Eighe.
