The city of #Wilmington#Delaware is considering capping a portion of #I95 that runs downtown. A friend with connections might be able to get #DelDOT’s attention to add in their analysis the #removal of that portion of the highway, similar to Minneapolis, Rochester, Dallas etc.

@BastingChemina Biking is still faster than driving for many short trips, since you avoid congestion, routes can be more direct and you can park closer to your destination. Under one mile it is probably quicker to bike than drive. Under two miles if you live where cars clog the streets.
Walked around my garden and it was quiet, so grabbed a cuppa to come sit on my porch and since asshole with a noise maker muffler is idling a block over.
I see trucks like this daily in Toronto, accomplishing little, but blocking our sidewalks and making our residential streets more dangerous. Usually their bed is covered to avoid … getting wet, maybe. It is exceedingly rare to spot a truck like this doing anything actually requiring the size of its engine and wheels.
Holy crap. In the EU, fuel consumption monitoring devices are required on new cars. They studied over 10% of all cars sold in 2021 and turns out they use way more fuel, and generate way more CO2, than anybody thought. Nearly a quarter more. Plug-in Hybrids do poorly too.
This means our projections about getting cars off the road for the climate crisis is hugely undercounting the effects. More rail, more e-bikes, more electric, faster.
Excellent episode from @TheWarOnCars about how auto insurance doesn't really cover all the harms from car crashes and how those costs are offloaded to others, especially the victims.
I was really surprised to learn that victims of car crashes often don't receive any compensation from drivers even when they have liability insurance because of how the law advantages health insurance companies over victims

It's never been more expensive to insure a car, but coverage barely covers the full personal and societal harm of car crashes, something we all pay for whether we drive or not — and that traffic violence victims subsidize with their life and limb.
