So, since JoinMastodon.org has decided to change the way servers are listed on their website — showing preference for large servers who do not have a manual review process to join —>
May I ask that you Boost this post so people can find us at https://mstdn.games ? :1up: :boost_ok:
We’re an all-inclusive #gaming community and our Local feed is amazing — absolutely the go-to place for all things #Games. Our Mods are top tier.
Normal reloading vs. hot reloading changes on save.
Annoyed I didn’t implement hot reloading sooner, because it creates so much less cognitive load. It saves time and CPU/GPU power too, but the real benefit is not constantly wiping out what you’re trying to look at and focus on.
I was experimenting with colour distances at work today. I need to find out how similar two colours are, so I wrote a little test program and it was surprisingly pretty.
The algorithm is simple:
Fill the canvas with random colours.
Set the first pixel (top left) to red.
For all pixels, find the most similar pixel and move it next to the current pixel.
To determine the similarity, I calculated the 3D distance in the RGB, HSV and YUV color spaces, which brought very different results. Now, it's quite possible that my HSV and YUV conversion functions were just broken, but that's okay.
I'm afraid it's time to look into having save/restore for my #Machiavelli#Fediverse#bot. If you're wondering why I've done everything to do without so far, the answer is (de)serialization.
Hello everyone! This is the very first open test of my blind accessible game engine called Unseen RPG Engine, a niche game engine that allows anyone to easily make turn based RPGs, at least that's the goal! This is very early and the purpose of this is to try and start getting the critical feedback I'll need to make this accessible, usable, and fun. Learn more about it, join the discord community, and download it here! https://ericbomb.itch.io/the-unseen-rpg-engine/devlog/552560/first-demo-of-the-unseen-rpg-engine-is-now-available
Every single time I check Steam I get depressed, but whenever I check Newgrounds it makes me so happy. There is more over there, but these are some of my favorite comments
The sad and broken dev in me is thankful right now ❤️
Surprised anyone still plays anything I ever did. Let alone that they would be so kind to leave comments like that 😊
Today's gamedev protip from someone totally unqualified to be giving such things is this:
Kanban boards and task lists are all well and good, but leaving a very specific next step for your future self at the end of each session makes it a lot quicker to get started next time.
Browsing #hashtags is quickly becoming useless. Even important ones for #MastoAdmin like #Fediverse and #Mastodon are filled with toots of random #photos and #art. Some even promoting their #porn or #gamedev#gaming project. Even random #journal or #blog posts FILLED with random irrelevant hashtags. It's quite infuriating...if you know what I mean.🤦♂️😬
"Pixelorama è un editor di pixel art gratuito e open source, creato con il Godot Engine da Orama Interactive. Se volete creare pixel art animata, grafica di gioco, tiles e qualsiasi tipo di pixel art, Pixelorama offre una varietà di strumenti e funzioni. È gratuito per tutti, per sempre!"
Does anyone here have experience with procedural text generation? I want to implement procedural descriptions for the planets in my game which are not toooo repetitive to read :o I read about Markov chains but I'm not sure how I can incorporate the different planet parameters, features, etc. And I'm also wondering what other methods there are^^ #computerscience#python#gamedev#gamedevelopment#coding#development#compsci
Man I'm so fuckin happy with how the dodges turned out. Took a ton of fighting (you have to set Flying state to get actually fast movement and that's a whole thing), but absolutely worth it.
Be a cute mouse!
Hop around the clock!
Survive!
