at the big age of 28 years old I still do not understand why anyone would ever buy a brand new car

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@vapaad For myself: I spent 20 yrs with cars that randomly broke down, costing hundreds and thousands of dollars in repairs at unexpected times. When I sold my first house and had some extra money I invested in a new car with a good warranty that I didn't have to worry about anymore. Everything is covered. Being the first/only owner of the car means I'm the one who maintains it. So there'll be no paying for someone else's bad maintenance down the line.
It's a security for me, that I've never had

I really gotta figure out some way to get my brain to disconnect and make the switch from "at the computer desk for work" to "at the computer desk for fun." I get done with work and all I want to do is be Away from it, while still being at my computer to play video games.

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@justanotherblue Some suggestions, if you're interested:

  • have separate work and fun logins. Log out of the work account and the fun account doesn't have any saved info for work stuff
  • take a walk when you sign off work and then change clothes. It signals a "status shift" to the brain

These two things work well for me!

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@justanotherblue I think the walk and changing clothes ones is the one that has the biggest impact, personally. But everyone is different.

We have reached peak winter rainy day weekend.

The woodfire is on, and there's a roast in the oven. Hubby is now preparing his family and friends famous roast potatoes ๐Ÿคฉ

Filling out that Johns Hopkins survey about covid as a somewhat rare person who's never had covid (AFAIK).

There's a section: Is there anything else about the Covid-19 pandemic you would like to share with the research team?

Me: How much is too much to trauma dump on the poor researcher?

(I might have written a small essay)

Woot! Got my Meater bluetooth meat thermometer charged, and paired with my phone via the Meater App. There are some things you need to identify to set it up like exactly what model you have and if there's a plus sign on the charging case and I didn't know for sure so I had to fool with it a bit but it's ready! Now I just need to decide what to cook.

@Pawpower I have a Meater Block with 4 probes and I love it SO much.

Hail Freya, it's Friday!
For this weekโ€™s I'm reviving an age-old pagan debate.
This is a two-part question:

Do you think cursing/hexing is an acceptable practice?

Have you done it?

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@Cat_LeFey

I've done it, more than once, never regretted it.

My curses and hexes are always in response to something. For me it's not about causing some harm to the target, although that is part of it. Instead, it's been a powerful moment of me drawing my line in the sand. Sending a message to my brain and to the ether "You may not treat me and mine in such a manner without repercussions."

They've been moments where I take back my power and acknowledge my self worth.

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@Cat_LeFey Yes, exactly this! It's about putting the finger on the scale when it's been weighted improperly. And like I said, for me personally, it's about actually being the one to do that rather than waiting around for them to get their comeuppance thru some other means.
Whether it has an actual outcome on the person isn't the point. The point is ME standing up and saying "NOPE, that behavior does not fly here." That's powerful magic.

Fellow COVID cautious folks in BC... did you know we can get another covid booster?

They are only sending out invites to specific ppl, but ANYONE who wants a booster is welcome to call and book.

http://www.bccdc.ca/health-info/diseases-conditions/covid-19/covid-19-vaccine/getting-a-vaccine

"Anyone else who feels they would benefit from a spring vaccine can contact the call centre to book a vaccine at 1-833-838-2323. You may also be able to walk into a pharmacy, where the vaccine is available."

I'm not even CLOSE to being unpacked. Work has been keeping me so busy and then when I'm not working I just want to chill.

Dug out the WIP tote tonight because I have been really missing my crafting! (I'd been waiting until there was some semblance of order).

Now I gotta decide what to work on:

  • brown shrug (probably the easiest)
  • crochet doll (a bit complicated but not too bad)
  • beaded lace shawl (v. complicated)

Leaning to the doll. Complex but not too much.
