Witches and that sort,

What is one teaching/knowledge you had about witchcraft that you've now left in the past?

Maybe because times have changed, maybe because it was a terrible book, maybe because your direction/focus has changed.

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@KentuckyConjurer absolutely everything gender binary. The whole, broom chalice thing, and everything else that sexualizes the craft

Saw the ‘new’ D&D movie this evening. It was surprisingly fun and enjoyable.

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@WelshAdventurer It's a good time, isn't it?

I really enjoyed the paladin, just really leaned into the trope without being irritating.

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@WelshAdventurer Oh yeah she was GREAT. I love that they didn't prettify her, you know? She had lines on her face, and wrinkles.

And that despite being a Barbarian and kinda tropey, she wasn't stupid.

More women like that in media please!

@elisse@mas.to avatar

#CrossStitch is a craft that's super fun, but unlike knitting, crochet or sewing, I never know what to do with my finished projects so they mostly gather dust.

(Yes, I know you can hang them up, but they're not a good match for every location in the house, especially if it's a seasonal pattern)

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@elisse Yeah I struggle with this too. I would do a lot more cross-stitching if I knew what to do with them.

I do give them away sometimes, cuz the joy for me is mainly in the creating.

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@elisse That's fair. I take photos and that's usually enough for me.

Call out to my ME/CFS trunkies, especially the autistics who are sensitive to meds and supplements...

I am looking to start some adaptogens again, and wondering what people have liked/had good results with.

I know my body loves licorice (I used to be able to find it in a syrup).

And I've had good experience with rhodiola - but haven't tried ashwagandha, particularly wondering how/if people are using that.

Advice on dose, combos, timing... appreciated.

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@vlrny ME/CFS/Fibro person and herbalist here... before I give any rec's...

You say you're sensitive to meds and whatnot. Does that mean they're extra powerful? (aka too powerful?) Or that you often have side effects? Basically could you expand on this a bit?

Any blood pressure issues?

Any meds you're currently taking?

ETA: What outcome(s) are you looking for? More rested? Less pain? Clearer brain? etc

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@vlrny Ahh, hard to rec any herbs then.

#NotOfficialAdvice

Ashwagandha is nice
Chaga is also fantastic, BUT it can be hard to get ethically so I mention it here more to say that you can get the same effects from elsewhere.
Lion's Mane is great for cognitive function which I find to be an issue with sleepy adrenals but YMMV
You may want to look into Rhodiola.

@vlrny

Panax quinquefolius is really nice. It doesn't have the same hit as the stronger ginsengs. I find it fortifies, if that makes sense? Helpful for the burnout and adrenal fatigue.

And all these recs assume no medications and come with the caveat of just because it's herbal doesn't mean it's safe. Herbs can absolutely kill you or fuck up your organs. Dosage is important! (sorry I have to).

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@vlrny Addendum: I have ME/CFS/Fibro and use all of these herbs myself.

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@vlrny Yeah I'd kinda given ginseng a complete pass for most of my herbal career. But two years ago during some clinic work one of the herbal elders introduced me to the north american variety. I've kept some on me ever since.

I don't use it daily, personally. But when I know I have a day that will require more spoons, or if I've been dragging. I'll take some.

I'm glad it helped! I love talking herbs with folks. Especially those who understand they aren't all safe.

Some #sewing for a friend's imminent baby today! Been a little while since I've made one of these sets, but they're my go-to baby gift these days. (The pattern I use accommodates cloth nappies and still works fine if paper ones are being used.)

Desperately, desperately, I want Ravelry for sewing. MOSTLY, I want a good way to stash my fabrics somewhere digital.

I have a lot of fabric that was purchased for projects I'm not going to make anymore. My style has shifted but the fabrics would still potentially work. I just... don't fully know what and how much I have.

I guess I could create a notions thing, or obsidian locker, or a google album or something.

MsHearthWitch,

@alexisbushnell I've never used Notion but I know a lot of folks do use it particularly for this. I could take a look and see if it'll work!

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@kamikat From what I've seen when I browsed there is that it's mostly for stashing patterns and reviewing patterns.
What I primarily want is fabric stashing. My patterns are all stashed on a cloud drive and organized by type.

MsHearthWitch,
@MsHearthWitch@wandering.shop avatar

@alexisbushnell Very stupid question... How do I copy the template to my own notion account?

Cuz yeah it looks good!

@alexisbushnell Ah ha! I see it now. Thank you muchly. This is exactly what I was hoping for.

@artcollisions We got really lucky. I did a fair bit of research for affordable therapists and knew as soon as I saw this profile he was a good fit. And they clicked well.

This is their website, they do online/Skype appointments so might be an option? We've never had a problem with him being flaky.

Maybe worth a shot sending and email and seeing if he knows someone in your area? He has connections all over.

@artcollisions No problem, I hope you're able to find someone soon.
