Some days the 'tism just fucking gets ya man.

Between finding the tire flat, then running a meeting for an hour with a board member present (apparently it went well!), then having to get my tire fixed like right away...

So much masking...

Got home and spent like 2 hrs in bed watching instagram reels.

Had an AMAZING meeting at work today about partnering with a local center. They help people with obstacles to employment get jobs, but also volunteer spots to help them gain references, skills and confidence.

THIS is why I do what I do at this job. It's why working at a non profit is worth it to me. And it's a way I can use my job to help build and be in community.

I'm so excited about the possibilities.

Went to go to work today for an important meeting...

Apparently my tire had a close and personal relationship with a screw all night long.

Thankfully one of the board members was able to come pick me up (yay for only living 4 min from work) so I made my meeting.

Then a nice neighbor helped me inflate the tire with his portable air compressor (yay community!)

Tire shop had me in and out in under 30 min while I had a coffee (yay starbucks!)

@consumablejoy Same. I was super panicked at first. If you can believe it I've never actually had a flat before. Hugely traumatic accidents yes, flats... no.

But like, I have great people around me, and it was all totally fine!

Reminder to ppl that when you get "cutesy" with your asterisks and funny spelling of words to avoid saying The Thing...

You bypass people's filters who really just don't have the time or mental capacity for the firehose of news.

I'm happy setting up my filters, I'm not trying to police other ppl's posting. But please... Just say the thing. Write the word. That's how this works and how we all take care of each other.

Sitting at a Pride planning meeting for my small town. Mostly listening. Their first Pride ever.

Some guy wanted to make sure it was going to find a way to keep out the - and I quote "sexual deviants" so the locals "don't judge the rest of us". And this old lesbian was like, "excuse me, I know gay men that have literally waited their entire lives for this, to be themselves in public. I know a lot who have died. Your going to kick them out?"

And like.

Fuck that fucking fucker mother fucking fucker shit.

I've only known I was queer for a few years. I'm barely a local, only been here a decade. But no event where other queers are not welcome is Pride. And heteronormativity will not keep them from murdering us.

I am all for kid stuff. But fuck that fucking shit.

I really want to love this more than I am as it works up.

I'm really hoping like, more progress and blocking works miracles.

It's the same yarn as the pattern, but idk, it looks SO messy and blaaaah to me. Maybe I'm just too close to it. And maybe the yarn will really look great after blocking.

Hoping it will be nice to wear this autumn.

I've been musing on this for a couple days.

I'm just unhappy with this yarn. Maybe steaming will help, but I didn't realize it was single ply (my fault) and I'm worried about the longevity of the garment. I'm careful with clothes, but also I have a super affectionate dog.

Spending hours knitting a fingering weight cable garment for my fat-self only for it to pill and not look good shortly after finishing seems... like a waste of time?

I contacted the dyer. She actually offered to buy back any unwound skeins (which was nice considering we're well past her 10 day return window). But I've already wound most of them so I think I'll just try and destash a SQ of them all. Someone else may love this yarn!

She's going to custom dye me this same color on another of her bases. This one's a 4 ply 85/15 Merino/Nylon with a soft feel and nice drape. I think it will work much better.

@KentuckyConjurer Oh yeah the color is every part of perfection. It's just that the yarn and I are not getting along.

I have impeccable tension and my knits are always SO neat. But you wouldn't know it looking at this. And I'm loathe to sink hundreds of hours into the garment and then the final product doesn't look polished.

But I am also concerned with like, pilling and overall longevity of the yarn. Single ply is NOT durable.

@westerling Lesson learned! I was just so excited about the color I didn't look at the actual yarn.

Hopefully not too expensive of a lesson if I can destash this single ply.

It is a GREAT color and I'm glad I'll be able to get new yarn dyed the same.

@KarenStrickholm Oh yeah, I don't have a problem knitting a fingering weight garment for myself. Hell I'm working on a lace weight shawl right now that's gonna be like 6ft wide and 4ft tall when I'm done.

My issue with fingering weight garment + fat person is that it takes time. More time than knitting a smaller sized garment.

If I'm going to invest in the time it takes to knit something for myself. I want to LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

@KarenStrickholm Yes I love adding silk too. She had a merino/silk base as well, but it was a smaller fingering weight and I didn't want to futz with adjusting the sizing or w/e. This base is the most like the original as far as thickness goes, and will work well for the cables and still give drape.
