Or at least something resembling it: villagers cut grass, wait for it to dry, and craft simple hay beddings to sleep on.

It's not much, but that's a solid base for more involved content that's gonna follow

If I recall correctly you lamented the loss of the Unity Scene view while the game is running in the editor. I just found today a button in Godot that does something similar. Not quite the same, but could be useful none the less!
It's called Project Camera Override and can be activated while the game is running.

But thank you for the recommendation, yeah it's not quite the same thing and not always useful but will definitely come in handy in certain situations...certainly better than nothing! Appreciate the tip.

Looking up guides on Elite Dangerous and constantly getting advice that says “the minimum you need to be effective is insert equipment with a price tag of 10 million credits” which is not that useful 🙄

Reminds me of the “you could buy a house if you stopped eating avocado toast” line of financial advice

@sinbad Fwiw I found exploration to be by far the most lucrative early on, but then I don't really enjoy combat and do enjoy being out in the middle of nowhere with nobody bothering me, so ymmv.

Met quite a few people new to Mastodon this week, so PSA: we have a culture of accessibility here and adding alt text to your media is very important.

Many of us won't boost your posts without it, and of course you're preventing a lot of people from enjoying your posts which is the whole point!

If you didn't realise, don't worry, we were all new sometime 🙂

(also if you don't do it, your post gets outlined in red in my feed and makes me sad, please don't make me sad 😢)

@grumpygamer Yeah I've forgot a couple times (usually while drunk!). I know there's a bot somewhere that does reminders but having the red outline on mine is enough to get a quick heads up and go edit it.

During the week I work in my "normal" role as...checks notes...fibre craft influencer? And then I get to turn into Michelle at weekends.

But this weekend we had a big three-day craft event, and I am completely knackered!

I'm also counting it as "working" all weekend, which means I'm now totally allowed to skive off for the rest of today and try to figure out how to make good low poly lighting in , even though it's Monday.

Well, I did it. I made a "game" in three days without making myself ill in the process.

It's not a very good game, of course. It's supposed to be about the joys of being naughty and sharing candy around school, but in reality it becomes about the utter tedium of trying to track down one last student to throw candy at.

@godotengine This time last year was my first and so far only attempt at , and I almost got my project over the line but ultimately gave up out of frustration with Unity being so slow.

So a couple weeks later I started learning Godot.

Not 100% sure yet if I'll be taking part this time (depends on the theme), but there would be something very pleasing about blasting through it with a Godot project this time around 😉

    @psychicparrot42 I had one where it turned out someone had already made it before me, but it was so niche and badly-received that it hadn't turned up in my initial research.

    And all the fundamental "cool" ideas I thought were going to make my game so unique were exactly the things all the reviews on Steam were complaining about.

    Dodged a bullet there I think!

    Before I break everything again to refactor some bits ready for the next feature, proof that we have in fact come a long way from the gliding T-Posers earlier this week.

    Video clip of my hex-based city building game. Citizens are now actual human-looking models, with varying hair, clothes and skin tones. They walk around the city instead of gliding in a t-pose. At dusk, their headlamps turn on they continue on about their night!

    Tried to fix a relatively minor bug with my citizen movement when they were turning corners.

    Did not expect this.

    Video clip of my hex-based, low poly city builder. The citizens are completely ignoring the path and instead flying erratically all over the city. Somehow they still get to their destination but it's unclear how.

    Last night I, the woman who in four whole years of #GameDev has never even managed to join a team for a game jam, dreamt that I started an indie studio full of grumpy old sarcastic part-time devs and we just churned out really tiny, niche weird games every few months.

    You ever wake up from a dream and you're just so sad it wasn't real?

    @grumpygamer It was more the contrast of me being unable to organise a team for one after four years of trying, against the ease of building a whole studio in my dreams 😂

    But yes I imagine you've had more than enough to be getting on with without rolling around in the ridiculous (fun, but ridiculous) muck of jam culture!

    @psychicparrot42 I fear everyone is missing the part where such a venture wouldn't actually come with a salary 😅

    But tbh we should do it anyway. Just a collective of grumpy old Fedi weirdos teaming up with each other for little projects and helping cross-promote all the games under our umbrella.
