Greta Thunberg: "I don't want your hope. I don't want you to be hopeful. I want you to panic. I want you to feel the fear I feel every day. And then I want you to act. I want you to act as if you would in a crisis. I want you to act as if the house was on fire, because it is."

The oil companies knew about climate change in the 1970s. See article in the link.
Canada is burning. My daughter, newborn & husband fled with fire 400m from their home in a city.
Tinder dry forests fuel fire due to climate heating. And political idiots and greedy arsonist oil & gas friends say we have to "adapt".
The picture is their Kelowna, BC, Canada neighbourhood.
One of the hilarious things going on is that the big capital-owned news companies in Canada decided that they wanted some of Facebook's money.
So they bribed the Canadian politicians into writing a copyright law which requires that anyone who links to the big capital-owned news companies pay those big capital-owned media conglomerates money for every link.
😆 🤣
Obviously Facebook then just stopped allowing their users to do that, because they don't even want their users to leave Facebook and go to news company websites anyway. It's the users that wanted to be able to link like that.
😆 🤣 And now.. And now..🤣 😆
For reasons not unrelated to the corporate/capital capture of law and sovereignty, all of Canada is in fire.
People are trying to tell their friends on Facebook about how they have to immediately leave the town because it's going to burn down and they are all going to die.
But they are trying to do so by linking to the local capital-owned news media conglomerate's web-pages.
But doing that isn't allowed any more because, the news media conglomerates demand payment for that sort of thing, backed up by genuinely paid-for "democratic" bribery to the Canadian political parties.
😆 🤣 And now.. And now..🤣 😆
The Canadian government is today demanding that Facebook allow the linking even though it's the Canadian government's laws that tax and so forbid it.
😆
This timeline is so fucking cursed. I really hate it when Facebook is right.
Though I do hate it more when people are all burning.
According to a new study, atmospheric oxygen could be the key factor for the emergence and development of technological civilizations. The study shows that fire, which is essential for many technological advances, is only possible in an atmosphere with a high oxygen content and that such atmospheres are rare in the universe. This could mean that planets where fire is possible, and thus civilizations that use fire, could be scarce and precious. #oxygen#fire#civilizationhttps://phys.org/news/2023-08-technological-civilizations-atmospheric-oxygen.html

“It’s easy to understand that when people arrived on this landscape, that it was a landscape that was shaped and maintained by fire and that it was exquisitely beautiful,” White says.
“It’s easy to understand that traditional knowledge of #fire should be integrated into fire management practices today, but, man, that’s hard to achieve.”
I wish I could tell you this was a cool vintage film simulation or a #Lightroom preset but this is the way #NewYorkCity looks tonight because of the smoke from the #CanadianWildfires. Walking outside for more than a few minutes makes your eyes start to tear and the smell of smoke burns your throat.

Canada left battered by 'never before seen' wildfire season
"And in the boreal forest, due to the thickness of the humus on the ground, fires can continue to burn for months.
As I age, I become less and less a fan of unnecessary complexity and chaos. A single candle & a quiet space have an awful lot to offer. Magic for people who don’t believe in magic. Magic for those of us who do. Bringing actual little physical fires to your thoughts is such a beautiful thing.
Chronic fear and debilitating panic turn good people into bad ones. We cannot treat others as we wish to be treated ourselves when we insist that they believe and act exactly as we do.
Duck Duck Go is starting to get almost as bad as Google for search. I was searching for a particular brand of DC electric kettle and it returned this USFS slide deck on a "tea kettle" experiment in the first page of results.

The U.S. Needs Wildland #Firefighters More Than Ever, but the Federal #Government Is Losing Them
Highly skilled firefighters are the last line of defense against #wildfires, but that line is fraying because the government decided long ago that they’re not worth very much.
