    I have installed some new lights, and they each come with an identical-looking but apparently differently encoded remote controls. The remotes control only one lamp each.

    Not infra-red as I had assumed until just now it seems. Signal hasno trouble passing through walls. Surprising.

    Anyone know if there's a way to capture the signals from those remotes and install some USB device on my computer that can repeat them?

    I figured there would be when I assumed they were infra-red remotes, coz surely a infra-red flasher/recorder is easy, but now I suspect it's probably some encoded encrypted wifi-band signal or something that there's no hope of intercepting.

    The life-span of these lamps seems likely to be limited by the life-span of these remote controls then too.

    Presumably a replacement control can't be found if they're all uniquely encoded and not backupable.

    The page at /admin/trends/statuses seems to suggest that individual authors have to be okayed before their posts will show in trending.

    Is it that? Maybe we have to okay everyone before they will show up? I think I got an email from the server about that sort of thing once and ignored it.

    Yeah, it's not supposed to be helpful, it's supposed to be performatively cruel and "send a message" through the law to act as a deterrent.

    They aren't trying to save money by processing in a poorer country, they are trying to disincentivize people applying for asylum here at all.

    Apparently they think the risk of drowning in an angry ocean doesn't work as deterrent enough so they need to be sure to add extra punishment on top of the threat of death.

    They are all quite mad.

    There’s a woman of colour who’s a playable character in Grand Theft Auto 6. Which apparently means that Grand Theft Auto has gone “woke”.

    I’m sorry, but have these dimwits ever played Grand Theft Auto before? The first game had four playable women of different ethnicities. That’s right, four!

    But what makes this controversy even more asinine is that these fools don’t even want to provide representation for women of colour in a video game about crime – and according to statistics, women of colour are more likely to be convicted of crime than their white counterparts.

    It’s as though racist fucks want to throw women of colour in jail. But at the same time, don’t want women of colour committing crimes in a fictional setting. No, that would be going too far.

    Here’s where political discourse has gone: where Grand Theft Auto 6 is considered “woke” because you can play as a woman of colour.

    I've been coughing and sick for more than a week now :(

    Dunno how you get a doctors appointment these days. Lots of clicks to register with their app and then it just says there aren't any appointments to be had.

    Maybe they get released at like 9am or something. Will try and check again in the morning.

    Website has no appointments at all ever, the phone number leads to a robot that says to fill in a web-form for an "e-consultation", that leads to a message saying "yeah, that's serious phone up" which leads to a receptionist saying that there are indeed no appointments.

    Right. So seems we don't have any doctors here. She reckons I might stand a chance calling after 6pm when the out of hours doctors are on instead.

    Remembered that there's some health insurance comes with the job these days.

    They of course require that I install an app, and then that I take photographs of my driving license and send them a selfie.

    Even those lucky enough to be privileged to be allowed health care must apparently submit to invasive apps and document scans.

    Well the doctor on the app says I need to go see a proper doctor to have a stethoscope stuck on my chest but of course we've been trying to do that already.

    The proper doctor has no appointments.

    These folks claim to allow me to book a face2face with someone further away in London than my local doc, but when I press that button in their app I just get a 404 page-not-found.

    I've been a bit sick the last couple of weeks so I tried to see a doctor.

    They use an app to give you a run-around these days instead of just answering the phone of course, but the app said I should indeed see a doctor.

    They have no appointments though. The app says no, the receptionist says no.

    No doctors in N7 it seems.

    I remembered that I'm lucky enough that the boss pays for health insurance. I'm against health insurance really. Paying to skip the queue is the way I see it.

    Tried that and once their app finished giving me a run-around talked to a doctor on a video call, who said yes, indeed you should go see a proper doctor with a stethoscope.

    But that's just pointing me back at the surgery with no appointments.

    Vitality, that's the private stuff my boss pays for, has a "book a face to face" option in their app, but that just leads to an error page.

    Their tech-support contact won't reply for three days.

    Hope you guys win next election, because it seems the conservative party have broken the NHS completely.

    Please try and fix it, and do so by making them not use bleeding apps all over the place giving you the run around and spying on you.

    Ban health apps!

    Meanwhile I guess I just have to continue to cough, I have given up seeking medical advice. There is no health service in London any more it seems, which is very sad.

    Success! I have changed the light in the kitchen, and now it can go purple if I want.

    Just as importantly, I have wired up the extractor fan that the estate office left me with when they changed the windows but refused to work on my electrics.
