His pledges are the most pathetic I've seen from him yet.

6500 teachers? So enough for 1 teacher per 2 schools. Yeah, that'll solve the recruitment and retention crisis.

40,000 more appointments per week? That's less than 40 per hospital.

Sticking to tough spending rules? Rules that have consistently been shown to not work? Great stuff.

He's not exactly setting out a bold vision, is he?

i can't think of anything other than the Robots.txt file, to what extent is this used on the fediverse and is it effective.

Should we add something to the cc license set to have a circle with a line through it and AI .

More callousness compounding the inequities of the housing crisis...

As other have remarked Thurrock's communication(s) with Heidi Dodson are remarkable for their inhumanity, but it sort of follows from declarations that the vulnerable & poor are making 'lifestyle choices'.

Cruelty & callousness come down from our politicians who are forever 'punching down'.

Sometimes I wonder how we have come to this, then I look at grinning Tories & I know all too well!

I wrote a fairly mundane post on Reddit that led to me getting an AI-prompted message with suicide prevention resources.

I was completely mystified but then I realized it was probably because I included the phrase: "I find it hard to manage" (in a context like "I find it hard to manage the crabgrass in my garden ... ").

This is the future isn't it? AI pestering us with context-free misunderstood nonsense. I guess I should just count myself lucky that the AI didn't institutionalize me.

The strength of the fediverse is that we can set up an instance that reflects our own values and the users who join share those values too. As a result we end up with instances that are very pro israel or pro palestine, we may get some that have sympthy with Hamas, or Hezbollah for example.

Perhaps this is a downside to that as well as an upside.

In the most glorious "fuck you" I have seen in a while, you know the book that Cumberland City Council banned because they're homophobic bigots - Holly Duhig's "A focus on Same Sex Parents"? Well, the publisher, BookLife Publishing, have made a PDF version of the book available for free.

Sure be a shame if it was shared far and wide now, wouldn't it?

When it comes to same sex parents, I remember the film 3 men and a baby, I can't remember that film causing any sort of majour contraversy, This was the 80's, attitudes to being gay were much different to today. The 3 characters in the film were not gay, but they were still same sex parents and did a good job, just lived to gether to raise the child.

This is 2024. Are they going to ban this film too.?

It would perhaps be good if the various free software projects to do this worked together a little more to produce one GOOD solution, once we have that we can coordinate efforts to make other solutions that will interoperate.

Small teams can only do so much, several small teams combined in to one bigger team with the same focus surely could work better.

Netanyahus government just shut down the @aljazeera office in Israel, I guess that is one way of controlling the media and ensuring only certain stories get out.

As a few seem to have pointed out, in clear violation of international law, the fact western governments do not seem to have condemned this, is rather worrying.
