Really sad how we have compartmentalized and created dichotomies for ways of thinking, feeling for "creative" "artistic" pursuits and logical, analytical ones. Sucks that there's a schism between art and science

Ever wonder what if physics, math was taught alongside or via fine arts/performing arts? How interesting the pedagogy would be

Imagine learning about food science, biochemistry along with cooking! or fashion design, sewing, drapery along with Non-Euclidean geometry

Wish there was some institution entirely dedicated to researching and experimenting on teaching people how to learn and how to teach each other, especially online (not current school of education ones that are more focused on teacher training on teaching to the test)

Like an institution solely dedicated to pedagogical creativity and pedagogical innovation for artists, designers, engineers where they publish open access research on how to break down complicated topics via interesting exercises

I was reflecting on why do I have this need of seeking folks with unconventional, non-traditional life trajectories, folks who are rebellious, inquisitive and carved out a niche for themselves, by themselves. Folks who not only stood their ground and rebelled but also made something for themselves and I think it’s about courage.

I’ve realized I get along really well with folks who experienced lot of friction in life & after experiencing had to make out something original, independently.

I'm quite enjoying the vibe of mastodon lately, reminds me of my early days on twitter.

Using it as a personal diary, thinking out thoughts loud and yet all that is leading to really lovely intellectual discussions with people. Had forgotten what that felt like on the internet.

Hope it stays that way

Any self-taught folks in tech industry who made their name in it, post-2010s, by creating entirely new domains/sub-domains for which there was no course/degree/formal credential/certification?

Like self taught non-credentialed folks who created such techniques and concepts on their own that spawned an entirely new industry and then courses around

Like a scenario where no job title or course in any UNI for their skillsets existed but then later it followed

TIL Michael Faraday who discovered electromagnetic was largely self-taught and didn't have formal math training

Faraday had only primary school education, and did not know higher mathematics, he became one of the most influential scientists in history. For the most part, he was an autodidact: he taught himself.

Normal people : I see a blue river

An old buddhist monk having fun trying to troll you: “An internal mental representation of a blue river rose into awareness from interplay of my eyes, cognitive schemas & some perceptual object."

Ask yourself how much are you missing out in day to day life coz of the delineations of reality via the words you use to describe life & your pattern of thoughts & behaviors that characterize you

We do not see things as they are, we see things as we are

How to find misfits, mavericks, rebels, self-directed learners in any industry/domain?

How to find folks who carved their own niche, who are somehow deviant (by choice) from their social milieu's cultural default/center?

How does one find such people? Where might such people hang out

Tech Workers Are Workers, Too by JS Tan

"Tech workers in China and the US recently united in the largest display of tech worker solidarity we’ve ever seen. It’s exactly what we need to prevent a global race to the bottom in tech"

Tech workers in China put together a project on Github calling for companies to end “996.” Chinese tech workers have coined the term to describe grueling practice of working 9 AM to 9 PM, 6 days a week

'I used to see them as a bunch of rioters': Brazil's radical farmers | The Guardian

Landless workers who occupied disused and degraded farmland were finally given plots and have transformed them into fields of bounty via agroforestry

https://www.theguardian.com/working-in-development/2018/jan/25/bunch-of-rioters-brazil-radical-farmers-agroforestry

In order to sell their produce, 26 of the families created a cooperative called Comuna da Terra, which delivers weekly baskets to consumers in the town. It follows a model known as community-supported agriculture (CSA)

The MST group at Mario Lago sells vegetable boxes to a growing number of local clients, who sign up for a year’s produce and are known as co-producers

"The example I like to give is back in the days of Roman numerals, basic multiplication was considered this incredibly technical concept that only official mathematicians could handle"

"But then once Arabic numerals came around, you could actually do arithmetic on paper, and we found that 7-year-olds can understand multiplication. It’s not that multiplication itself was difficult. It was just that the representation of numbers — the interface — was wrong"
