French company #Seabike has developed a swimming device that uses your own leg power to accelerate you through the water at superhuman speeds.
This crank-driven pusher prop looks a bit like an #underwater#unicycle...
The idea is simple enough; you extend the Seabike's pole to the appropriate length, then strap it to your waist with a belt. Then you find the pedals with your feet, and start turning the crank, with the waist strap to push against. https://newatlas.com/marine/seabike-swimming-propeller/
I'm a hobbyist photographer mostly shooting landscapes above water and amazing wildlife underwater whenever I'm lucky enough to have the opportunity. Sharing some images for #PortfolioDay, more at https://photos.shom.dev/
I've switched over to shooting fullframe mirrorless (#a7c) and processing with #darktable, go #foss! I've included the location of the images in the alt-text along with the image description (always looking to improve, feedback welcomed).
“On October 11, 1923, a steel bulk freighter called the Huronton sank while making its way across Lake Superior. Now, a century later, researchers have located the shipwreck in an 800-foot-deep hole in the lake floor.
The Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society announced the find last week on the 100th anniversary of the ship’s sinking…
Researchers with the historical society discovered the Huronton’s wreckage in Lake Superior this summer. Aboard the R/V David Boyd, they were using side-scan sonar to systematically search for wrecks.." #GIS#spatial#mapping#remotesensing#sonar#sidescansonar#ROV#underwater#shipwreck#historic#LakeSuperior#GreatLakes#archaeology#shipping#transportation#lake#USA#wreck#Huronton#bulldog#sailors
