It's fucking insane how addicted corporations have become to #tracking everything you do, everything you look at, everything you type, everything you think about.
They've gotten so brazen about it. Shit like this - the #Microsoft#Edge browser routing every image through some "AI enhancer" that also tracks what you're viewing - is now a default setting. I suppose at least people who use Edge can opt out, for now, if they know to.
With the Apollo app for Reddit shutting down soon, I’m going to need to start relying on Mastodon for all of my cute animal photo, gif, and story needs. #Apollo#Reddit#Animals#SmallTalk

"I'm a voice enabled assistant. Please tell me how I can help you"
What about people that are mute? People with sore throats? People who are uncomfortable having their voice, in essence, recorded for processing? Or people with other voice-hindering disabilities?
I enjoy putting on thick, heavy, exaggerated accents solely to get me through to a human.

Personal: I am very happy to announce that I have accepted a tenure-track Assistant Professor position at the University of Groningen. Looking forward to further collaborations, and am glad to continue working within the Information Systems Group at the Bernoulli Institute.
Texas won the latest round in its antitrust lawsuit against Alphabet's Google on Monday as a U.S. judicial panel ordered the case returned to federal court in Texas.
This is a psychological thriller that delves into the privacy we have online, or lack thereof, and the cost of surrendering it as the body count piles up.
Very intrigued by the premise here, which seems quite apropos.
Some very important privacy updates on #iOS17 that I haven't paid attention:
"Some websites add extra information to their URLs in order to track users across other websites. Now this information will be removed from the links users share in Messages and Mail, and the links will still work as expected. This information will also be removed from links in Safari Private Browsing.”
This is a great feature.
But it is also, as always, a game of cat and mouse.
Facebook already does it in such a way that ID and tracking parameters are encrypted and combined into one string, making them inseparable. I fear that more companies will follow this practice.

#FBI says it is instituting a three-strike policy for misuse of #FISA 702 data, including unintentional misuse. Penalties up to and including "dismissal," per deputy director. (Actual details of this are unclear, new policy just announced moments ago.) #privacy
🔒 ‘No regrets,’ says Edward Snowden, after 10 years in exile | @guardian
⎧ But he is depressed about inroads into privacy both in the physical and digital world. “Technology has grown to be enormously influential,” Snowden said. “If we think about what we saw in 2013 and the capabilities of governments today, 2013 seems like child’s play.”⎭
