Since this is my #personal #friendica server, I'll add #YetAnotherIntroduction post. 😃

I am what I would consider a pretty boring dad to five kiddos, from Lawrence KS. I'm most definitely #introverted, and in a past life I'd much rather be #reading a good book or playing some #JRPG on whatever system is current.

These days, I can generally be found at home, doing the #WorkFromHome thing as an application #SystemAdministrator dealing with lots of #OracleCloud fun (...not).

Downtime has me learning #clojure, #typescript, #angular, #emacs and basically anything shiny that catches my eye.

I've been #keto for the last few years, doing maintenance mode for most of that time, with no plans to change any time soon. It's a lifestyle for me, not a diet.

I've got a handful of accounts on the #fediverse, one of which is my single user #mastodon instance. I'm trying different things out to see which I prefer most.

I can't recommend as "survival"/camping food enough.

  1. Dry lean beef at ~45 C until it breaks.
  2. Blend into powder.
  3. Render same weight of tallow and mix it thoroughly with powdered beef.
  4. Norm it in any forms and sizes you like, let it cool. IIRC ~300g is about 2000kcal.
  5. Eat it as is or make "pemmican soup" with ingredients you like (or just salt & pepper).

Just a reminder, if you care about reducing lives lost a diet that includes meat responsibility in the right proportions will result in significantly less lives lost than eating a salad.

Compared to mountain-raised beef eating beef will result in significantly FEWER lives lost than a salad. One salad probably cost quite a few insects and mice their lives to make. A mountain-raised cow is wild grazed, so the land isnt suitable for crops, and no animals other than the cow dies. So one cow makes 3000 meals, thats a much better deal than the multiple deaths per plate you expect from a salad.

"Run slower to run faster!"

I didn't believe it after 5-6 people told me that but man, it does work. I ran 5 miles / 8 km this morning and stayed in zone 2/3 the whole time. Never touched zone 4. That's a first.

I felt like I could have gone further but I was getting bored making circles in the park. 😉

It was special having a houseful here to watch some history being made. We had plenty of food and I went right off the #keto wagon when we had fish and chips for dinner. It seemed appropriate.
We had a mix of #blind and sighted people all wanting to share the experience. The event was not audio described in New Zealand, which for those unaware provides additional description for blind people. This meant I had to spend time some days ahead planning how we would make the event fully #accessible. It involved some geoblocking circumvention so we could receive the BBC alternative commentary for blind people.
It is tremendous that they offered this. But having the ability to implement these workarounds in order to make an event of this magnitude accessible to everyone in our house isn’t acceptable. Measures could have been put in place to make the commentary accessible to other commonwealth countries. We often see this, where audio description resources have to be used for the same project around the world due to lack of sharing.
I’d also observe that having put the work in to get access, there wasn’t as much description as I would personally have liked. It felt like the commentator wasn’t truly aware of the needs of his audience at all times. Radio 4’s commentary was much better, but when you have a house full of blind and sighted people, that doesn’t work in an environment like a living room.

Longest run EVER! 🎉

I used to be sucking wind about 20% through a 5K but I ran over 8km today with zero walking. Lots of time in zone 3 was a surprise, too. 🎽

My goal of 10K without death is inching closer...

Anyway, I've got my daily eating and recipes for what I've eaten the last few days, plus a few actual posts. Still need to move the last couple of years' worth of content from my chia.owly.net site, which will now be just for personal posts and fun stuff, but that might take more time.

I will now be using only this site for updating pages and adding new content.

When I started, I couldn't run for longer than 60 seconds at a time.

Need some new low carb, low sugar breakfast ideas. Getting tired of: eggs, meat, cheese, peanut butter.

I'm not currently too worried about fat, just keeping down simple carb and added sugar.

I'm pretty omnivorous and like most veg. I'm just not being creative enough for additional "fast" "tasty" breakfast options.

Thoughts?
