I made cheesie pancakes as a breakfast accompaniment, using lupin and coconut flours. They were really nice. I need to get Greek yoghurt to perfect the recipe, and I'll also take photos. Follow-up post will have the complete recipe.

I love Mexican food (or rather, our local interpretation of it) but between the tortillas, the beans, and the rice it is off-limits.

Today went to Qdoba - a fast-food Mexican place - and I was able to get the vibe without the carbs.

I ordered a bowl - no shell - with the seasoned ground beef, lettuce, tomato salsa, cheese, sour cream, and guac. Then I splurged on some corn salsa*. That was very filling and darned good!

(Tonight I had a leg quarter.)

It can be done, friends!

  • My daily carb limit is 50g total. More or less. What kind of carbs those are (as well as maintaining my IF/eating window) is most important in controlling my inflammation and pain levels - I don't eat for weight loss.

Lunch taste sensation! Had some leftover burger patties with Boursin garlic and herb cheese to eat, and some mushrooms that needed to be used...so I sliced the 'shrooms and roasted them with seasonings and butter in my air fryer. Once I mixed them up with the burgers and melted cheese it made a delicious buttery cheese sauce...who knew???

Starting today. I’m kind of bamboozled by the idea of no bread or granola at breakfast. But I have to give something new a go, I feel I can’t go on being so unstable and there’s not much wriggle room in my med regimen

Need some new low carb, low sugar breakfast ideas. Getting tired of: eggs, meat, cheese, peanut butter.

I'm not currently too worried about fat, just keeping down simple carb and added sugar.

I'm pretty omnivorous and like most veg. I'm just not being creative enough for additional "fast" "tasty" breakfast options.

Thoughts?

Just a reminder, if you care about reducing lives lost a diet that includes meat responsibility in the right proportions will result in significantly less lives lost than eating a salad.

Compared to mountain-raised beef eating beef will result in significantly FEWER lives lost than a salad. One salad probably cost quite a few insects and mice their lives to make. A mountain-raised cow is wild grazed, so the land isnt suitable for crops, and no animals other than the cow dies. So one cow makes 3000 meals, thats a much better deal than the multiple deaths per plate you expect from a salad.

What's the market for that are both low carb & low meat?

We have a family member who has to eat low carb. We also strive to . This has forced me to get pretty creative in the kitchen. I've built a decent repertoire of recipes that are -friendly, kid-friendly, working-parent-friendly, animal-friendly(ish), & don't use artificial sweeteners. It's a niche need, but curious if anyone else out there is chasing a similar diet & could use help!

Jetzt im vierten Fastentag habe ich nach langer Zeit erstmalig wieder gemessen. Ergab 11 PPM was bedeutet, dass ich in einer guten mittleren Ernährungsketose bin. Jawoll, erster Meilenstein geschafft \o/

Sagte ich schon mal, wie ich das Fasten liebe ? Besonders weil es einen nahezu in die Ketose katapultiert.

breakfast sausage gravy with eggs! Recipe card attached. Normally I add the heavy cream however today I didn’t have the cream so just doubled up on the cream cheese. It’s so tasty. ( sorry for the dirty recipe card) it’s been used a lot 😊 @KetoPlus

Keto pizza

I made a keto pizza, using lupin and coconut flour for the base. It worked really well. Although, the base was more like shortcrust than a traditional wheat flour pizza.

I didn't bother trying to make the base circular, as the pizza wasn't for consumption by the public. 😃

Guys, I just made TOAST! Carnivore TOAST! There's a whole story about it on my site (link below) but if you're like me you'll skip to the recipe anyway - hahaha - so here it is, copied & pasted:

"I don't measure anything. I rarely follow recipes. I go by the seat of my pants when I cook. So I can share the approximate amounts of each ingredient that I used. But it's only a guide and certainly not written in stone. Feel free to use your own pants if you try this!

"I have a limited selection of baking dishes so I just chose a regular (Pyrex) loaf pan and buttered it, then set it aside. And I preheated my oven to 350°F.

"In a bowl I mixed together thoroughly about 1/3c of egg whites, 2T of full-fat Greek yogurt, and a Tbsp of oil (avacado in this case). When it was smooth, I added about 1/4c of chicken flour, 3 turns of pink salt, 1/4 tsp of xanthan gum, 2 tsps of beef gelatin, and 2 tsps of yeast (for the scent), and mixed it all until very smooth and creamy. Finally, I added a rounded teaspoon of baking powder from which I'd smashed out the clumps; mixed that into the batter quickly, scraped it into my loaf pan (it was only about an inch high), and put it in the oven.

"20 minutes later it was done and I put the whole pan on a cooling rack; about 20 minutes after that I was able to easily and cleanly lift the loaf out, cut it in half across the middle, then slice each half through the center to create 4 slices of more-or-less square bread."

(which I then toasted, the way my Gram taught me!)

Wandering around the supermarket an idea came to me. #keto haggis: all the meat and flavourings of the traditional dish, but, without the carbs inherent in oatmeal. Maybe replace oatmeal with some type of coarsely chopped nuts.

Is it possible to talk about #dietculture fads in a way that is still permissive of the sheer genetic variability that necessarily dictates that some dietary choices are suitable for some but not for others? Every time I hear that #keto is a dangerous fad, I have to grit my teeth, because it’s been the only successful intervention (medical or otherwise) for my chronic #migraines, and I’d be disabled 3 or 4 days a week if I didn’t keep myself in ketosis (in my case, <18 net grams of carbs p/day).

Der Tag fing mit Mathe an. Habe nochmals meine Macrowerte angepasst. Die nächsten Essen werde ich mal versuchen auf eine Ratio von 3:1 zu essen, was dann im therapeutischen Bereich liegt. Das wird so auch in der Medizin zur Behandlung von Epilepsie, Depressionen, Alzheimer und Diabetes angewendet. Bin gespannt ob ich damit zurecht komme. Die Menge Fett auf die Lebensmittel ist schon erheblich.

Und nun werde ich wohl nochmal ins Schlummerland gegen :)

"So I've been sick for about a week +/-, and craving toast. When I was a kid my mom always made us toast and soft-boiled eggs when we were sick, so maybe that's why?...I made a small amount of toast recently but this time I want a LOAF of bread to make toast. Going by the seat of my pants (and a lot of successful experiments in breads over the last 20 years) I made a loaf that is in the oven right now. Below is what I did, before I forget, if it works out; if it doesn't, you'll never see this anyway!"

"Sliced the loaf into 18 slices. And this is what the macros look like, for the online calculator I used, and the brands of ingredients I used:
Calories = 651 (36/slice)
fat = 33g (< 2g/slice)
carbs = 36g (2g/slice)

protein = 82g (4.5g/slice)"

I only used stuff that most low carbers/keto folk would have around the house anyway...STOKED!

Suggestions for stuff that doesn't taste like sand or pure fake sugar?

I've tried some of these protien thingies with low net carbs before but trying to stave off prediabetes now so it's a bit more urgent
