There’s a new playbook being written right now when it comes to the future of social media. The early-mover advantage is still in effect, and there’s a lot to figure out. Gone are opaque algorithms and the whims of any single company.
The fediverse represents a chance for quality journalism to shine again.
We talked to two leaders at fedi-forward publications — @TheConversationUS's @BostonAbrams, and @404mediaco's @jasonkoebler — about why they’re investing in the open social web, what they’ve learned so far, and their advice for other publishers just getting started.
Medicare (U.S.) won’t pay for the CGRP migraine medication (Aimovig) that stopped the daily #migraines that developed with my #MECFS. #Medicare will pay for #Botox, but I am not enthusiastic about 31 painful infections every 12 weeks to see if it works for me, especially since it can take 2-3 rounds before it works. The brain burning sensation is the worst symptom, and I’m not convinced that Botox will address what seems to be neuroinflammation. Anyone have any success with Botox? @mecfs
My day not fun but Drew’s day worse: second nurse to our house unable to start IV for migraine treatment. He’s had 8 attempts in 48 hours. Thousands of dollars IV meds and supplies sitting here unused. Day 16 migraine. This is a nightmare. Of course it’s Thursday night and many if not most specialists are not in office Friday. Waiting for neurologist on call to call back. Thankfully Drew sleeping in recliner. #Migraine#Migraines
They make SO much of a difference! No eyestrain, no headache, no sunburn on my face from the UV of the fluorescent lights and the sun coming in the giant wall of windows...
Please provide a warning with links to Ravelry, as the site can trigger #migraines and other sensory issues. The owners are ableist and refuse to repair.
Could really use some advice. My hus gets them sometimes like really bad. But there's like no fucking info out there on this shit like even Google's top hit says bullcrap acupuncture.
Anyone help with resources or even just context about preventing this Hell that happens to him?
@mutualaid I have a #GoFundMe link in my #Bio and #Mastodon is kind enough to have come through for me a few times. If you'd like to donate to the go fund me, it would be very appreciated. Other methods of donating are... #1, #Paypal. Paypal.me/brooketg22 and #2 #Cashapp which is $LavenderSnowXX. I also have #ApplePay for anyone with iPhones, and #Venmo which is LaurenCeleste. More stories about why I need help coming soon. #Mecfss#CFS#Migraines#mentalhealth
Okay I feel I've told this story before, but new account and all, so I'll try to catch you up to date.
I started my first year at #University. And per #school policy first years have to live in the #dorms. I'm in one of the #GirlsOnly dorms. Before classes started my proposed #roommate made some very unkind comments about me being a #lesbian, in front of myself, the #RA and a couple of #faculty members. And she was unceremoniously told she was not welcome at the university. The student they found to replace her is male, so I ended up without a roomie, which since I suffer from #chronic#migraines is a nice thing.
Last week was #Frosh week, where all the first years have to do stuff for #charity. So the girls in my dorm did a car wash. Since it was super hot last week, most of us work ,#bikini tops and short #shorts. I made some good friends among them, Suse and Rose who share the room next to mine and Lisa for the 2nd floor. I like all the girls, but we four became really close already.
Suse and I even slept together after a mixer in the dorm's common room, we woke up #naked together on the couch. Since then she's woken me up or vice versa several times by licking each other's #pussies.
This week we had our first classes. And after buying/downloading our text books the four of us went shopping . We took turns in pairs having #cunnilingus in the changing rooms.
I also tried out and got a spot on the #swimming ,#team and the #gymnastics team. And Suse and I both posed nude together for a art class. And are going to continue to do so.
Hope that brings you up to date with my year so far. 💋
How's your #weekend been? Yesterday we celebrated my goddaughter's 18th birthday. 🤗♥️ I have had #migraines this week but this morning was the worst. I thought I had got rid of migraines completely but that wasn't obviously the case. I even had to throw up this morning and I slept for an hour after that. Now I'm waiting for my #cats Sanni and Siiri to come #home. Stress and perfumes cause me migraines. Many people wore perfume yesterday and that triggered the migraine. #today#finland
If anyone in this whole fediverse suffers from abdominal #migraines please please tell me if you have found a preventative treatment.
Imitrex, zofran, and a hot bath sometimes will work to abort them, sometimes it takes a couple rounds of that. But when that doesn’t work it’s 1-3 days of hell and now I need to have a 2nd surgery since 2021 because of damage from excessive heaving and straining from my body rejecting every bit of fluid in my body.
This is not sustainable. I was lucky not to catch anything at the hospital in the summer of 2021, I don’t think I’ll be that lucky this time. At least I get financial aid at the hospital so I won’t have to pay the 20% copay. But this is ridiculous.
Booo #capoeira is postponed until mid-September. I’ve been wanting to get back into it if my #migraines will possibly let me. I guess I have a month of playing at home and trying to build up my strength before class, but I’ll miss the atmosphere. Hopefully by the time it’s going again I’ll be able to play for longer and/or more reliably.
I will do my best to post accessibly, including image descriptions and avoiding flashing lights.
I will CW for things like violence, nudity, and hate speech.
I will not CW for cursing, food, politics, or eye contact. If you need CWs for these things, it's okay not to follow me! I just do all of these things a lot, so you wouldn't see most of my posts anyway.
If I see you, and you make interesting original posts, I might follow you. If you post a lot of sexually graphic content, I probably won't. It's not personal.
Right now I’m fundraising for an essential treatment: One Magnesium + Hartmanns IV is 400+ each & I need at least 1 a month. No #Medicare rebate.
THEY GET ME OUT OF BED
Right now I’m stuck here 23 hours a day in a darkened room. Give me a chance to get out please.
Stops #migraines.
Reduce #ChronicPain
Reduces #POTS/#Dysautonomia
Increase #cognition.
Helps nearly all my symptoms.
Brings me back to 50% or normal!
Can’t use the public hospital system right now due to medical neglect (my doctor had no idea to present my care plan to a hospital), but I’m in a long queue to see gateway specialists (who give minimal/no rebate), another cost ahead. Getting into the public system also takes a long time (at least 18 months from time of referrals, but I’m still on the waitlist for a gatekeeper).
I can’t wait in bed anymore.
I have a referral from a different GP and will start getting these IVs as soon as details are sorted.
I need to get up and better before I can get away from #abuse.
Is it possible to talk about #dietculture fads in a way that is still permissive of the sheer genetic variability that necessarily dictates that some dietary choices are suitable for some but not for others? Every time I hear that #keto is a dangerous fad, I have to grit my teeth, because it’s been the only successful intervention (medical or otherwise) for my chronic #migraines, and I’d be disabled 3 or 4 days a week if I didn’t keep myself in ketosis (in my case, <18 net grams of carbs p/day).
I'm 39. I've never really suffered #migraines - apart from maybe one that came with a terrible hangover - but I think I'm experiencing a (painless) aura right now.
It's right in my line of sight and very annoying. Do I just wait it out?
