The EU declares Apple's iPadOS as a 'gatekeeper' due to its vast app ecosystem, locking in businesses like yours or users like you.
The European Union's designation of Apple's iPadOS as a "gatekeeper" signals a significant win for small businesses and startup owners in fostering a fair digital marketplace.
This move further underscores the EU's commitment to regulating tech giants such as Apple and gives smaller businesses the opportunity to thrive and innovate.
Apple must now comply with the DMA within 6 months. Our CEO, @jon, welcomes this, noting that iPads and iPhones share the same ecosystem and that Apple controls both as the gatekeeper.
My fellow Mastodonians, if you travel or someone who needs to film or take a quick VC and need that extra bit of light to bring out your glorious features then KeyLight is for you!!
KeyLight turns your iPhone, iPad and Apple TV into a Keylight in a pinch! With configurable temperature, brightness* and colour*.
I believe it would be cool if some of the third-party developers were able to help out with the project. Also, I hope they include an in app payment feature to make it easier for donations or even for premium features (buying a T-shirt or hat with your Misskey handle on it would be cool).
#iOS and #iPadOS 17: "Notes. Quickly add links from one note to another. It’s a powerful way to connect research notes, reference a recipe, or even create wikis for your team.”
🍎 iOS folks, the new Vivaldi 6.7 has some goodies just for you!
📱 Picture this: You're working on your iPad and constantly have to switch between Vivaldi and other apps or browser windows. Annoying, right? Thanks to multiple windows support, you can say goodbye to that, and focus on what you're doing without interruption.
📝 Keep your digital life organized with more sorting options for Notes and Bookmarks. Plus with Vivaldi Sync in the mix, you can effortlessly transition between your Apple devices with all essential files and folders at your reach.
🌙 The Force Dark Mode gives you a comfortable browsing experience that adapts to your system color scheme.
Upgrade today, with all this and more, for a browsing experience tailored to your needs on your iOS devices. 👇🏻
After updating to iPadOS 17.1.1 my iPad no longer resolves addresses that are DNS entries originating from the pihole (like 192.168 addresses). Anyone else seeing similar?
After thinking about it for a while, I’ve finally decided to give #Lockdown mode on #iOS and #iPadOS a go. First thing I noticed is that it didn’t auto-connect to my WiFi as usual, claiming it’s insecure 💀 more of a dig at my WiFi security than anything.
I’m interested in how it is gonna perform in day-to-day life and if I’d notice having turned it on as the only impacted piece of software mentioned by @techlore that I actually use is Safari.
I hope this is the year #Apple realizes the #iPad Pro line is a mature enough product to finally drop #iPadOS in favor of #macOS with robust touch input support. Sure, #Finder might need to be modified to adapt to a touch first device. The issue here is, #iOS on which iPadOS is based is significantly holding back the devices full potential and it seems intentional at this point.
This is more of a security question, but I currently know way more people on ruby.social than infosec.exchange. I want to use a #Yubikey for #SMIME or #GPG signing on #iOS & #iPadOS, but can't find:
Any documentation about how to integrate it with Apple Mail.
Anyplace that offers #x509 certificates for S/MIME at zero or minimal cost the way @letsencrypt offers free #SSL certs.
Self-signed S/MIME certs are a non-starter, and there are no full-featured #OpenPGP apps on iOS. Suggestions?
I’m looking for alternatives to #emacs#orgmode for #iPadOS . I used to ssh’d to a remote machine with Emacs, but it isn’t that good even with Mosh. Suggestions? Halp! 🆘
At the end of the day, I want to use the org-roam note-taking plugin. I know about #Logseq but I wonder if there’s something else to look for 👀
The Commission said both business and end users are “locked-in” to #Apple’s #iPadOS ecosystem due to its size and user base, which it said the company leverages to disincentivize users from switching to competitors, giving Apple six months to ensure full compliance. #DMA
Now that Apple is forced to open their mobile operating systems for third party devs in an unprecedented manner, can we work on an indie foss podcatcher that does not suck?
Here''s something that I've been having a bit of trouble googling an answer for:
My #OpnSense Firewall is protected with HTTPS & a self-signed certificate (or maybe LE). Viewing it on my phone, it shows a page saying it's not trusted and giving me the option to continue anyway, as usual and all is good. On my #iPad, on the other hand, the page title is "This connection is not private" but the page is completely blank...
