#Monterey is beautiful, but it's "Allergy Central" for me. Seriously looking at #SantaCruz for a future home base; I spent most of my childhood there (on the Westside), which tended to be less inflammatory for my quirky physiology.
Monterey Peninsula people, Peace of Mind Dog Rescue is looking for foster homes for a bunch of pups. Most of them are small, and all are adorable little fuzz beans. POMDR is great to foster with if you've been toying with the idea!
sigh I've got a faint positive #COVID test today. So either I got it from my wife and mother in law who both had it last week or I picked it up while traveling.
I'm not feeling very bad. Just congested.
This is the first time I've had COVID as far as I'm aware since the start of the pandemic.
I managed to be on my feet for about 12 hours yesterday with only routine bouts of nausea and fatigue plus some weird sensations in the skin on my face.
I'm taking it easy today and am working slowly on things. I've still got brain fog and some fatigue. No more congestion.
The immuno compromised partner of one of my students just got #covid (not from me) so it's definitely active here on the #Monterey peninsula.
"On my way out of #Monterey I passed a Salvation Army truck dispensing a hot lunch to the homeless, including quite a few bike hobos. They hailed me saying there was plenty of food. The ham and scalloped potatoes and broccoli was as nutritious a meal as I’ve had.” George Christensen, from his 3/1/19 blog post on visiting Monterey County and neighboring locales https://georgethecyclist.blogspot.com/2019/03/gilroy-california.html
By-the-wind sailors, Latin name Velella velellas, spotted out on Monterey Bay but thousands of these are blowing onto Bay Area beaches now. They're related to jellies but not actually jellies. #NaturePhotography#Jellies#PacificOcean#Monterey#California
One creature happy with all the by-the-wind sailors west of Monterey was this common mola (Pacific sunfish) that was gobbling them up. #fish#Monterey#PacificOcean
Hundreds of thousands of By-the-wind-sailors (Velella velella; which are an unusual floating colonial athecate hydroid) just blanketing Asilomar this morning 🤯 They're making the waves thick with their doomed corpses. There was also a bonus Gulfweed Crab (Planes minutus) hanging around.
Last night’s storm deposited a little more than a half inch of rain. We went for a short hike this afternoon on muddy trails. It was fun. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that Joanne set the pace again last night. It took genuine exertion to keep up. #Monterey #Hike #HuckleberryHill
The shrub called Pride of Madeira is another of those interlopers of the California plant community that seems to be welcomed into many of California’s landscaped gardens. This one either escaped, or was planted by the city. It’s beautiful either way. #Monterey #MorningWalk #PrideOfMadeira
This is my new friend Gannon! I'm fostering him through Peace of Mind Dog Rescue in Pacific Grove (California)! He was neglected and eventually abandoned by his former owner. If you're looking to adopt a sweet old man pup who just wants to snuggle through his retirement, lmk!
#Monterey, #California: National Weather Service: #TORNADO WARNING in this area until 6:45 PM PST. Take shelter now in a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. We still have power but the Internet is out (the local node is a few blocks over where the power went out this morning) and has been since about 5pm. The cell network for all intents and purposes is down but maybe I can get this toot out. We're safe and no damage at our house. Sounds like others are less fortunate on the #monterey peninsula. The central coast of #California is taking a beating.
#California#Storm > The County of #Monterey and #MontereyCounty Sheriff's Office have issued an evacuation order for people who live near the Carmel River. Those areas include communities of Camp Steffani, Paso Hondo, and areas near Shuttle Road.
This morning was breezy and drizzly. No spectators allowed on the golf course today; maybe no golfers. Those wildflowers are called Summer snowflakes. That woman is called Joanne. #Monterey #MorningWalk #Weather #ClambakeVibe
