"Hello there!, I'll be your tour guide on a boating adventure, a day of exploration, in the summertime.
This is a harbour seal, I think. I refer to them as the Cute seals, the Grey Seal is much larger & also called a horsehead seal, because, THEY UGLY! 😂
You don't have to be in a boat to see these. I can walk to most shorelines and see them.
Asking the group mind in case someone has #opinions.
The drastic weight loss during my extended hospital stay (~100lbs) has changed my body-shape in all ways save skeletal.
1 weird-ass effect is that my feet have shrunk in width & thickness, but not length, which means I’m now swimming in my Docs, but can’t go down a size.
I’m trying to find a solution that won’t make it too hot for summer wear. I’m leaning towards #hiking#socks but am not familiar enough.
Just donated $100 to the amazing Organic Maps project: Trackerless, fully offline, OSM based, open source mapping for Android/iOS. Great UX & routing, super fast & good coverage even of hiking paths, elevation lines & public transport layers...
From their website: "Organic Maps is one of a few applications nowadays that supports 100% of features without an active Internet connection. Install Organic Maps, download maps, throw away your SIM card (by the way, your operator constantly tracks you), and go for a weeklong trip on a single battery charge without any byte sent to the network."
This is how you buy some of the best Alpine cheese: there is a small fortune in cheese (and some butter and yoghurt) in this fridge with payment based on just trusting your customers to leave the money in a post box 🤩🧀
#rando#randonnée#hike#hiking#voyage#travel#photo#photography
We took a hike in Cliff Cave Park this afternoon. The 1st photo is the lookout point from the parking lot by our car at 10x zoom. The 2nd is basically a reverse shot, a photo of the car from the lookout. If you zoom in you can see my wife's white Chevy Bolt backed into a space at the back of the lot. The last two pictures are just landscape and autumn colors. Great day for a walk straight up hill. 🙂
There's a #missing hiker near #Monrovia California, who was apparently researching old #hiking trails. I think he's in one of these canyons: "Excurions up Monrovia Canyon may be made to (3 mi.) Sawpit Canyon, (6 mi). Deer Park, (14 mi.) Fish Canyon and (17 mi.) Los Lomas" -- now, to find those maps. He was hiking off trail... probably on an old trace. Not a great thing in the Angeles National Forest, which is extremely rough/rugged/dangerous down there.
Mt Monroe and Mt Washington in the white mountains. Since it’s Wed, I’ll start with waterfalls. More pics and detail in thread #hiking#WaterfallWednesday
AAA's #Westways magazine recommending #MtBaldy#MountSanGorgonia and #SanJacintoPeak as hiking locations. They include a disclaimer, but nothing about needing serious training/preparation for the elevation, the difficulty of all 3 of these hikes (Vivian Creek?!?!?!). #hiking
@jessie is a lover of #languages and helps run #CommonVoice, @mozilla 's open #voice#data set, which now supports over 100 languages. She also teaches #WebDev and loves #hiking. She's awesome you should follow her 🇬🇧
That's all for now, please do share your own lists so we can create deeper connections, and a tightly-connected community here
I'm reminded here of @maryrobinette's short story - "Red Rockets" - "She built something better than fireworks. She built community."
How do you maintain walking / biking trails in the woods? Recently purchased a home with more than 4 acres of property. The majority of that is fairly dense woods.
