Urgent: The Secretary-General of the United Nations: We condemn the practices of “Israel” that led to the martyrdom of dozens of innocent people who were searching for shelter, and there is no safe place in #Gaza, and this horror must stop.
A statement from an emergency worker in Rafah:
2/2
"Most of the bodies were charred and burned, while the injured people lost limbs and suffered other injuries due to the use of internationally prohibited weapons that caused the massive fire which erupted. We pulled out approx 50 people and injured people from the area and transported them to field hospitals after official hospitals were forced to evacuate in an attempt to destroy the health system in the Rafah area”
The White House on Tuesday indicated an Israeli strike that killed dozens of Palestinians in Rafah did not cross a “red line” that would lead to a change in U.S. policy....
The current American threats to sanction the ICC could spell the death of International Law. Whatever little hope people had for a just international system will disappear.
Joe Biden's claim that Hamas’s October 7 attacks were “driven by ancient desire to wipe out the Jewish people" is ahistorical and dangerous. In fact, Jewish history shows that antisemitism is a Western problem.
I've been having some online-based conversations about the #Gaza War with an American Jew as of late.
He is a #Zionist and is convinced that the overall goal of #Palestinians is not only the destruction of the state of #Israel (an admittedly unrealistic goal), but also to drive all the Jews from this reborn #Palestine .
Personally, I am dubious. My assumption is that just like not all Israelis want to destroy the remaining Palestinian territories and drive their inhabitants out, so do not all Palestinians wish to drive out the Jews from a hypothetical future Greater Palestine.
But that's just my assumption - I don't really have a good overview of what various Palestinian groups want in terms of long-term goals. So can anyone share some good links and citations with me on this (since I no longer trust Google with search results, and with this topic less than most)?
I joined the Biden Administration because I believe in fighting for a better America, for a future where Americans can thrive: one with economic prosperity, a healthy planet, and equal rights for all people. I have dedicated my career to candidates who I believed would further this vision.
Once again, the issue is portrayed as a bunch of extremists who took over Israel. This is not untrue, but it hides the fact that before these extremists were anywhere near power, Israel was already systematically dispossessing, colonizing, and brutalizing Palestinians.
Every Israeli I know hates Netanyahu, Israel's messianic far right, settlements, and settlers. And I mean HATES them.
But Israeli society is still overwhelmingly supportive of the war.
If I wanted to avoid escalation by militant Islam in the #middleeast, I wouldn’t start by making a quarter million able-bodied men homeless & motherless with nothing to lose.

Joe Biden continues to fully support the Gaza genocide because he does not believe it will hurt him politically, and because he has no empathy for the Palestinians. This is the same arrogance that brought down LBJ over the Vietnam war.
Canada’s largest private high school recently organized a genocide solidarity trip in which students cooked for Israeli soldiers. In a sane world, the school’s charitable status would be revoked.
Which nations, named or considered a homeland for an ethnicity, treat people differently based on their religion or ethnicity? Cause I can go for #Israel (including maybe the Palestinian territories) being Jewish in the same way that Greece is Greek etc. You don't get special rights anywhere in Europe afaik for having the related heritage. It would probably take decades of UN forces and a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to make that work. What side does this put me on? #Gaza
Doctors Without Borders said that the intensification of the onslaught by Israeli forces on #Rafah has forced it to stop providing lifesaving care at Rafah Indonesian Field hospital as of 12 May.
Israeli soldiers rounded up Ahmad Safi and his male family members in Khan Younis and made them stand atop a sand dune for 12 hours as the soldiers took cover behind them during a firefight with Palestinian resistance fighters. This is their story.
Israel has vowed to persist with its military operation in Gaza, saying it won’t engage in “meaningless” negotiations with Hamas, shortly after the United Nations Security Council overwhelmingly approved a US-backed ceasefire plan intended to bring an end to the eight-month war.
