TIL about infrastructure cooperatives. Many of their ideas reasonates with my thoughts and the thread I started earlier 1. Here is a list of links to some of such coops and related resources:

Lovely people of mastodon, I am still looking for a new female / trans / nb #darkwave etc. #singer for my project Art Noir, alto or mezzo-soprano with access to a recording studio or a decent microphone. You'll find our style on the website in my profile.
Currently, I'm working on a new EP for Aenaos Records, and I have prepared two cover songs: "Under Ice" by Kate Bush and "Górecki" by Lamb, but we can do whatever you want if we like each other, musically. Thank you, music community

I'm going to catch us up on some interesting science for a couple of days. A break from the daily horror show.
"Survival of the nicest: have we got evolution the wrong way round?
How humans, animals and even single-celled organisms cooperate to survive suggests there’s more to life than just competition, argues a cheering study of evolutionary biology."

Tolerance + #Cooperation = Peace
“It feels like mine,” she says. “We work hard, but it’s a totally different feeling from working for someone else.”
That sentiment is echoed by Mondragón’s 70,000 other workers. Made up of 81 autonomous #cooperatives the corporation has grown since its creation in 1956 to become a leading force in the Basque economy.
More than its economic success, though, Mondragón has become a beacon for the co-operative model, as a more humane and egalitarian way of doing business that puts “people over capital”. Every worker has a stake in the company’s fortunes and a say in how it is run, and receives a share of the profits. But the goal is more about creating “rich societies, not rich people”. That means looking after workers during not only the good times but the tough times, too." https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2024/apr/24/in-the-us-they-think-were-communists-the-70000-workers-showing-the-world-another-way-to-earn-a-living?CMP=share_btn_url

In many group-living species, high-rank individuals bully their group-mates to get what they want, but their contribution is key to success in conflict with other groups, according to a study that sheds new light on the evolutionary roots of cooperation and group conflict.

Western agronomists changed the traditional agricultural system in Bali, and when that caused crops to increase and then the whole system collapsed, Stephen Lansing from Santa Fe Institute organized an interdisciplinary effort to find out why. They discovered that the quasi-religious traditional water temple system was a sophisticated socio-cultural solution to complex social dilemmas.

Riane Eisler: “Partnership and Domination Systems”

By Nate Hagens, originally published by The Great Simplification March 27, 2024

"...What we value at the individual and family level directly translates to the way we frame our governance systems – societies that emphasize empathy and caring also implement the same types of policies and values. How could we foster the more cooperative side of our humanity across all scales to create empowered communities and balanced decision making? What societies – past and present – lean towards a partnership paradigm and what benefits do their people receive? Is it possible to move away from violence and control oriented systems and into ones that value wide boundaries of empathy and understand the vital nature of care work?"

They had me at "chaos theory" which is the last item in the show's table of contents, at 1:06:03 if you're curious, lol.

Darwin's Cathedral: Evolutionary Advantages of Religion

Wilson argues that religious systems (sets of belief and moral codes) are biological adaptations that allow individuals to act collectively and survive in distinct social and economic contexts relative to other groups.

Not posting this for any handclaps, but last week this length of the allotment stream was quite literally covered in litter, trolleys, cans and other stuff. After contacting my local council, they have cleared it up. My point is, no matter how small and ineffectual you think your action is, sometimes it can make a big change. To all those out there doing their small things, be it for the environment or for social justice, keep at it, you are part of a hidden movement for good!

An injury to one is an injury to all. When one person faces harm or injustice, it threatens the well-being and freedom of all. We mustn't fight and compete with each other; that is how we stay subjugated. Cooperation and solidarity are the only way we will all be free, the only way we can live our lives to the fullest and bring as much pleasure to ourselves and our neighbors on this planet.

Workers unite! Form unions to gain collective strength against bosses. Recognize that harm to one worker reflects the systemic exploitation affecting all workers. We have a world to win!

To win a strike, workers need to stop working altogether and take control of their workplace to demand fair treatment and equal sharing of resources.

When I was teaching in a classroom, I asked students to read & agree to this before admission to the course:

In this learning community, we’re going to be inquiring & reflecting more than delivering & memorizing, & we’re going to be thinking, discussing, learning as a group as well as learning individually — we’re going to be collaborative (working together on projects) & cooperative (co-responsible for each other’s learning)

What is the Zollman effect?

“More information generally means a better chance at discovering the truth, at least from an individual perspective. But not as a community, Zollman finds, at least not always. Sharing all our information with one another can make us less likely to reach the correct answer to a question we’re all investigating.”
