@mjgardner@arstechnica@DickHardt@HelloCoop@arstechnica It would be really cool if instances providing mirror accounts decide to redirect to the official accounts after they migrate. This would incentivize mirrored news organizations with a initial follower boost when they take ownership of their brand on the #fediverse
Having full ownership of my posts, no matter how trite they may be, is part of the reason why I chose to run my own #fediverse instance. #Bluesky seems like an interesting experiment, but I am done for the time being with corporate social networks.
Let's get them on the fediverse! Use this form to tell them why they should take part in a social media space which is freedom-respecting and federated. You should especially contact them if you're in #Portland , #Eugene , or anywhere else in #Oregon
I think, #Mastodon is becoming better and better...relatedely, unrelatedely...
The problem is, Mastodon is becoming, well, a #Twitter , that promotes itself as "hey, we're better, at this and at that, so leave #birdsite and come join us!", which is makes me quite piss of.
Mastodon is Mastodon, Twitter is Twitter, but they should be never be mixed up with each other....
Right now, I'm using @trunksapp and pretty happy with it: LOTS of themes (as well as @semaphore does but better!) and Markdown support (does better then @elk ) and many other features that I like and enjoy!..
No ads, full free, open source, glad be to be here :-)
The most revealing aspect of the #hachyderm#fediblock drama has been the truly feudal nature of the fediverse / feudalverse.
A world of conflict was occurring between admins/feudal lords mostly unknown to instance users/subjects … until defederations and admin resignations occur … at which point the users have to blindly work out what’s happened and how it affects them and which instances they’re now blind to.
Just like monarchs declaring war against each other. @fediversenews
@leviramsey@maegul@fediversenews@nova As sole proprietor of my own instance in the #Fediverse - I don’t supply content to centralized for profit sites. Social media corporations reap the economics. Users supply creativity and content like serfs did agricultural labor - just for a place to inhabit. That’s feudalism. It’s a slow process but I hope others adopt this awareness. #mastodon may not yet be mature. Remember the #birdsite in 2008?
When you post on Twitter(1) or Bluesky(2) you grant them a broad perpetual license to use, modify, and sublicense your content. You effectively make them co-owners of your content. They can mine it and monetize it. They can even sell it. When you post on Mastodon(3) most instances take no license at all. That's right, they tell you what they are doing with your content—storing posts and delivering them—but no license.
Seeing as Mother's Day isn't that far away I thought I would create this mixed media piece called "Mother With Sunflowers", it looks beautiful on canvas, coffee mugs, tote bags and much more! Hope you enjoy:)
Wait so are people actually using Bluesky? I keep seeing people talking about Bluesky on the fediverse. I figured people wouldn't actually use it after what happened with Twitter...
What #Mastodon and the #Fediverse have taught me is that you can have a social media experience that is as good or better than the for-profit alternatives without having ads shoved in your face or being the product.
I don't care what anyone else chooses to do but the FOMO over BS's artificial scarcity isn't enough for me to try it out much less bail on all the nice people I've met on here. 😊
We join Mastodon or the Fediverse to check it out, but stay for the cat pics. So if you're thinking of leaving or even of requesting a Blue Sky invite, the boss would like a word with you ...
Dear everybody on #Twitter looking at #Bluesky please please come over to the federated social web first, already proven to work for millions of people without millions of $$ in capital. I'll personally help you get set up please reach out.
Whatever theoretical future potential for Bluesky's specification, everybody posting about it and even pining for it is missing the continued mass migration to the ActivityPub-based #fediverse which has, now, the community and flexibility we need!
