Been reading up a lot about neoliberals lately.

Turns out that the people who love capitalism the most and want to protect it at all costs don't think that it inevitably leads to democracy. In fact they think too much democracy leads inevitably to socialism, and sought (often successfully) to encase capitalism within the protection of national and international law in order to fend off democratic attacks on "economic freedom," aka, the right of a small slice of humanity to take their piles of money wherever they want and be assured of finding desperate low-wage workers wherever they go.

Looks like the #AntiMonarchist demonstrators were subject to a classic bait & switch operation today - they were reassured through detailed meetings with the #Police, led to believe there was a way that they could exercise their right to protest, only then to be arrested when they did... so much for #democracy - another step down a road we're constantly told is merely scaremongering.... its almost entrapment

Step 1: Foment utter chaos, like the McCarthy ouster. Step 2: Tell voters the only way to fix the chaos is dictatorship

Why '#RedCaesar' is Code Red for #democracy"

Of course democracy is disappointing. That's the design. Gently disappointing everyone trying chart a middle course. Leaving everyone not entirely satisfied, because resources are finite & everyone wants different things.

Good is mildly unsatisfying for everyone. That is the point. The least shitty system we aspire to

Throwing mildly disappointing democracy away, for not being perfect, is insanity.

Democratic void is terrible for nearly everyone, that's it's main feature.

Considering how big of a factor voter apathy is on a worldwide scale, and the difference that could have been made, this never stops being relevant.

We have this misconception that #Democracy is executing the will of the majority... But thats not true.

Any democracy that gives 51% of people what they want, even when that is abusive to the wishes of the 49% will not survive, that leads to revolution... democracy has never been about majority rule.

What democracy is about is rule by the people, ALL the people. Any successful system will reach agreements that nearly everyone will be happy enough with so as not to pick up a gun and shoot the other side for oppressing them. Its about compromising enough that everyone can settle rather than agree.

This is exactly why the electorial college and other elements of government exist rather than a simple 51% rule... because we want to make sure any idea has atleast some level of support from most represented groups... so in the end the ones who may not like the vote can at least live with it.

We need to construct a post-'post-truth' environment.

Where the major truths become indisputable and everything else is a result of the knowledge of those truths.

So the question is not "is #Trump a threat to #democracy?"

The question is "how do we prevent Trump continuing his assault on democracy?"

And the question is not "is #Putin a threat to world peace?"

The question is "how do we ramp up western #military production to eliminate any current and future threat from #Russia?"

It's obvious to me that a second #Trump presidency would destroy American #democracy - which is, at the moment, on shaky ground. We are in the throes of a global battle against #authoritarianism and #fascism, and each of us must actively choose the path we want for ourselves and future generations.

Rust Foundation Member Spotlight: Helsing

"Helsing is a new type of defense company. We believe that software, in particular #AI, will be the key to protecting our #democracy. Our teams design technology products that transform the operational capabilities of both new and existing defense platforms, to deliver faster and more accurate decision-making at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels.

Helsing is a pan-European, multi-domestic company with national entities in Germany, the UK, and France. As a result, we can access the widest pool of European talent for technology infrastructure and capabilities. Our domain experience means we are attuned to the most difficult problems faced by our governments. Helsing has had a pretty exciting ride so far, growing from 4 to 200 employees (140 of which are on the engineering team) in the course of two years.

Helsing, like most companies that make extensive use of #Rust, is able to do so in large part due to the amazing (and often #volunteer-based) work of the Rust community. [...]

To the community: thank you, thank you, thank you. Not only have I personally gotten a lot of value from being part of and contributing to the Rust community, but I have also seen the extensive impact of all you do at scale at AWS and now at Helsing. Without you all, we would all still be writing high-performance, security-critical systems in C++ and Java, and paying the price."

About Dr. Robert Fink

Dr. Robert Fink is Helsing’s CTO and responsible for all aspects of technology and software development, including recruiting, platform architecture, engineering culture, and education. Prior to joining Helsing, Robert was a distinguished software engineer at #Palantir Technologies and the founding engineer and chief architect of Palantir’s Foundry Platform.

Dear European based LGBTIQ+ people.. (so basically everybody).

Today I attended an event in organized by @waag @DeGroene @gemeenteamsterdam and the Amsterdam public library called

Featured speaker this time was Euro Member of Parliament @kimvsparrentak who passionately spoke on the need for a more free Internet detached from and more focussed on and real interaction.

When confronted with her presence on X and Insta, and the lack of active presence here on the we promised to help her.

Please help us get a decent follower-base here and follow her account right now, before she even gets a chance to get more active. A follower base of more than a 1000 people will surely help her convince her party members to spend time and money on a real presence here.

I used a cut out of the image posted by @sicco in this post: https://todon.nl/@sicco/112372340250592627 thank you for that Sicco.
