Met coalitie-plannen krijgt Nederland de hoogste btw voor het lezen van de krant. Foto NRC. Geldt ook voor boeken.
Altijd janken als het gaat om btw op vliegen, vlees eten etc. “Dan is het alleen nog voor de elite!😱” Maar lezen alleen voor de elite? Prima. Hou het volk dom.

@martoiu dat lijkt me een onverstandig standpunt van het type: “als je niet voor ons bent, dan ben je tegen ons”.

Ik zou het zo zeggen: media die drogredenen publiceren moeten daarop aangesproken worden en publiekelijk voor worden beoordeeld. Zo ook voor wetenschappers zoals Jessica (ik kon haar niet vinden op de Fediverse helaas).

Het artikel begint met deze zin: “Sinds de wrede aanvallen van Hamas in Israël op 7 oktober en het begin van de daaropvolgende oorlog teisteren controverses de universiteiten.” Die zin voelt ongebalanceerd, het woordje “wrede” mist voor oorlog (al zijn alle oorlogen wreed).

Als je het hele artikel leest wordt de titel een soort self fulfilling prophecy: ze doet mijns inziens precies wat ze anderen verwijt.

Toch zou ik het NRC in deze niet ‘medeplichtig’ noemen, maar meer ‘het platform voor de discussie’. Had ik de tijd maar om een volwaardige repliek op dit artikel te schrijven.

@randahl the problem with putting it this way is that you might be giving people the suggestion that it would have been ‘just fair’ to have killed 1139 people instead.

The real question is, how do you prevent these killings from happening. And the only real good way to do that is to start being excellent to each other. No retaliation, no revenge, no returned hate, but understanding, love, peace, compassion and trust is what will solve this.

Let’s start out by stopping the killing!

@TwraSun if only I could find a picture of two kids from #gaza playing at the beach. But there is almost no image material coming from the hermetically closed area and I am pretty sure there is no ‘happy playing at the beach’ there.

Perhaps it would be fair to compare it to a detention camp?

@TwraSun your search skills are clearly better than mine. I heard a figure of 35.000 deaths yesterday (this article speaks of 14.500 so more than double since then).

There is a high chance the children in that picture have been killed by now. When will the killing stop?

I want to talk about compassion, love, be excellent to each other. Even if the chance is 2 in a hundred (which is enormous, considering we are talking about human beings) it is not right.

I complain about anyone killing people (notice that I do not even add the word innocent).

Every war is bad, inhumane, savage, uncivilized and morally rejectable.

It does not matter who started this, what matters is that we stop it, all of us, together, like all those religious books preach to us (and what is unworshippable ethically just).

I don’t spread propaganda, I spread that everybody opens their eyes to see what is happening (people are killed) and that we all agree to stop killing. Hmm, perhaps that is propaganda too: I propagate to start living together and stop the killing.

Also: looking away or not wanting to see what is happening in #Syria #Ukraina and #Gaza is exactly the opposite of what daily reminders like the ones that @auschwitzmuseum is trying to achieve.

The killing in #Syria #Ukraina and #Gaza is equally gruesome as what happened in #Auschwitch or #BergenBelsen and it has to stop, NOW!

I don't share your view.

Thousands of innocent people are being killed, deprived of basic needs and barred from a chance to flee. Schools, universities and hospitals are being bombed. I see a very clear plan or policy to do these things.

In no way do I attack or condemn any group of people for what they are or what they believe. In fact I have not even talked about 'Palestinian population' or 'Hamas' or 'Jews' or 'Israeli'. All I have pointed to is that the people that are in the geographical area called #Gaza are being murdered and there is almost no escape.

Calling me 'inherently antisemitic' is just not right.
