And here's a piece I wrote on why universities are reluctant to run their own Mastodon servers (recently updated with information on referrer tracking and social media platform support)
Do any #australian readers have some advice on getting a #possum out of our garage?
Heve tried using spiky things and sealing every possible entrance I can think of. I have tried using eucalyptus oil and camphor to repel them, but no luck. And they are urinating all over my car every night.
Nasty.
Please boost if you have Aussie followers. Cheers.
#Introduction I'm arfy, a long-time fan of #music#composition via #midi, as well as just enjoying music in all of its various forms. These days my compositions are few and far between, but the interest is definitely still there, especially now I have access to #apple#logic and Native instruments Komplete Kontrol and its system of #accessibility. I still love keeping up with the #electronic music scene and the technologies coming down the pipe. My other big interest at the moment is #History, and #language#etomology, particularly of #english and how it evolved from a mix of Germanic, #Latin, #Greek and all sorts of others. Also I'm an aspiring #ham#radio operator, wanting to get my #Australian foundation Licence. I think that's it for now, so, 73s!
“Posting photos of six and seven-year-olds on social media and mocking them as #Zionists is particularly sinister and disturbing,” he said.
“He emphasised that the children involved were #Australian, not participants in any foreign conflict, and accused the company of seeking to dehumanise #Jews.”
I need to follow some more Australians. My feed in the mornings is nearly all Americans and though I'm interested in events in America I'm even more interested in my own country.
Pls make yrself known in the comments if you're a Aussie looking for more connections.
Maybe someone has a list of Australian accounts to follow?
Why is this guy even still allowed do to anything but go fishing?
"Former #Australian prime minister #TonyAbbott, a director of the UK’s principal #climate science #denial group, the Global Warming Policy Foundation (#GWPF), has been reappointed by the government as an adviser to the prestigious Board of Trade.
The Board of Trade provides advice to the government on its trade deals with foreign countries, which often encompass environmental and climate standards. "
Hmm… anyone here remembers the story of an #Australian who ordered pizza (IIRC, or some food) online and the store is actually only in #Europe?
The store sent its crew all the way to Australia just to deliver the customer's order.
I'm trying to find the news article, but search engines these days are useless when it comes to anything before 2017. All I get from them are paid results with edited dates.
Now that an Australian private company (SYPAC Systems) is manufacturing cheap cardboard drones (yes, really) for use in Ukraine, perhaps our RAAF should get to use them too.
They can be used for surveillance, dropping explosives and running home, or "suicide" bombing - just like the bigger boys' drones, but cheaper.
@dropbear suggested the use of a drop bear logo, and I reckon the RAAF should use this:
His wings hold all creation in a weightless quiet
Steady as a hallucination in the streaming air.

Our local Master of the Wind came calling yesterday.
As the smallest of raptors, the kestrel reminds us that:
It is no small thing to live one’s own life.

Over the weekend I presented some talks on Australian language and culture for an international language event. The one for Aussie slang was fun - explaining terms like budgie smugglers, spitting the dummy and bringing a plate. Host and I agree our favourite is “it’s cactus” to describe something broken beyond repair. #language#slang#australian#ESL#TESL
#McBride Was sentenced today. Six years, or two years if he gets out on parole.
McBride was not allowed a lot of his evidence in court, preventing any possibility of him winning the case.
David McBride photocopied over 200 proofs of the #Australian [#Australia ] military committing, and hiding, war crimes in Afghanistan.
After McBride released his proof to the #ABCaustralia the AFP raided the journalists. Jailing journalists is a dangerous precedent that the government has toyed with for decades, but never committed to (see #WitnessK ). Jailing McBride is possibly the most damaging thing to Australian #democracy the government has enacted in decades. It was possible to pardon him, like they did with Witness K.
Fuck the judge that sentenced him, fuck the prosecution, and fuck the government ministers for not speaking out on this, even the ones that couldn't do anything about it.
