got a pixel 8a - too cheap not to!

  • RRP is $849

  • JB is running a promo where you get $300 off the 8a if you trade in any smartphone, so I gave them a Samsung Note 10 with a cracked screen for $1, bringing the price down to $548

  • if you make a new JB Hi-Fi perks account you get a $10 off coupon, $538

  • I paid the $538 with a gift card I got at 5% off making my out of pocket cost $511.55

  • plus JB give you a $200 gift card if you buy an 8A during its first 2 weeks of sale, which I'll happily use on more ink for my Epson ET-8550, or a new lens for my camera, making the effective price $311.55 for a brand new phone that has support for 7 years ($45/yr if the battery makes it that long!)

I love bargains 💸

it's not as nice in the hand as a pixel 5 though - the metal rim feels worse imho than a simple all plastic case

@trib can do it all online too, don't need to go into the store (you post the phone to the trade-in mob)

@trib fate is calling, will you answer

@joffotron yeah the 8a is a cheap phone that at $849 is a total rip off

@M0les the JB Hi-fi perks $10?

decryption,
@decryption@aus.social avatar

@M0les I did the perks thing in store and it worked, prob not worth leaving the house for $10! I got the gift cards via Amex - https://myamexshop.com.au/

Ozbargain has a list too if you don't have an Amex - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/discounted_egift_cards

Not been a great couple of weeks.

There was a Windows update that killed 70% of my business (had to rewrite a shitload of code because Microsoft and Backblaze wouldn’t). Will try to write a blog post on that later.

Now trying to deal with a situation where I’m arguing about privacy and doxing and being caught up between Dun & Bradstreet, Apple, and the European Union. Will also write a blog post on how that probably didn’t end well for any other software developer like me.
