I paid the $538 with a gift card I got at 5% off making my out of pocket cost $511.55
plus JB give you a $200 gift card if you buy an 8A during its first 2 weeks of sale, which I'll happily use on more ink for my Epson ET-8550, or a new lens for my camera, making the effective price $311.55 for a brand new phone that has support for 7 years ($45/yr if the battery makes it that long!)
@mattdarveniza that's 80% of why i bothered, haha - chances are I'll use this until the iPhone 16 Pro comes out and then keep this pixel 8a as my backup/I need an Android phone
@decryption Thanks for the heads up! Been looking at the 8a, but it's so hard to justify the cost after buying $400 phones for years and years. Managed to use up a few gift cards I'd had lying around for years too.
@decryption Also: You don't need to trade in a "smart" phone for the $300 voucher - There's a 3G trade-up deal where you can get $1 for a working 3G dumbphone.

@decryption The screen on my 6 Pro has gone a bit dodgy, and it's probably going to cost a few hundo to fix - but then I looked up the specs, and the 8a is actually worse spec'd than the 6, aside from the processor
@decryption I realized a few weeks ago that I use my phone so much I shouldn't be baulking at paying so much. Especially at what I have spent on music hardware and software. And on my most recent camera.
Only reason I haven't bought the Pixel 8 I want yet is I need my next pay cycle to happen!
@decryption I busted the screen on my 7a and there's nobody local to fix it, so this has been tempting, but the nearest JB stores are Canberra, and I don't have the time for a day trip.
