So, in Australia, there's no easy way to opt out of #MetaAI's new #enshittification move of training its #AI on all your words and images, a policy which takes effect from 26th June.
Or is there?
I asked Meta AI's chat bot how to do this, and here's how the conversation went:
> Tell me how to opt out of my data being used to train AI
META AI RESPONSE:
To opt out of your data being used to train AI, you can submit a request through the Meta Privacy Center. Here's how:
Go to (link unavailable)
Click on "Settings" (icon) in the top right corner
Click on "Meta's use of AI and machine learning"
Scroll down to "Control how your data is used to improve Meta's products and services"
Select "Submit a request" under "Use of data for AI and machine learning"
Fill out the form with your name, email address, and a brief description of your request (e.g., "Opt out of AI training data usage")
Submit the form
Alternatively, you can also send a request via email to mailto:privacy@meta.com with the subject "Opt out of AI training data usage" and include your name and email address.
Please note that you may need to verify your identity to process the request. Meta will review your request and respond to your email address with a decision.
Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns!
> How long does it take Meta to review my request and to respond?
META AI RESPONSE:
Meta aims to review and respond to privacy requests, including opt-out requests for AI training data usage, within a reasonable time frame, typically:
30 days from the date of receipt for requests made through the Privacy Center
30 days from the date of verification (if required) for requests made via email
Please note that the review process may take longer if:
The request is complex or requires additional information
Meta needs to verify your identity or confirm your request
There are technical issues or high volumes of requests
If you have submitted a request, you can expect an email response from Meta once your request has been reviewed and processed. If you have any concerns or questions, feel free to ask!
I have sent the email to privacy@meta.com with the appropriate subject line, requesting to be opted out of training.
I'll let y'all know how the request goes.
I mean, if their own #chatbot tells you how to opt out, it must be true, right?!
Amazon Prime Video preroll/midroll ads are so bad that I won’t watch Prime Video anymore.
I’ve had Prime longer than Prime Video has existed but I’ve paused it from renewing now.
The real bummer of this particular kind of #enshittification is the exclusivity deals. If Amazon didn’t buy up content licensing and then put awful ads in front of it, maybe another platform that is slightly less bad could have a show or movie I want to watch.
Watched the premier episode of #Fallout and #AmazonPrime not only ran ads before the show but interrupted the show 3-4 times to play unskippable ads. 😡
Ads before were bad enough, but this is absolutely jarring & bullshit for a service I pay for.
Can't even seem to find any info about an ad-free tier for Canadian subscribers.
Really makes the "oh, it's streaming on Prime" discovery into a disappointment than good news.
"Microsoft is ending support for Windows 10 in October 2025, but the company is now taking the unusual step of reopening its beta program for Windows 10 to test new features and improvements."
Are they just going to start cramming more AI into it to see if they can force people to upgrade?
while i'm almost impressed by otter.ai's hall of fame level #enshittification, i'm still outraged that they more than doubled the monthly price for the same services & i now need to find a solid offline non-subscription #transcription app. recommendations (besides macwhisper), anyone?
I stopped using facebook more than a year ago, and this year I have been deleting my posts in a daily exercise of excising my memories from that ghastly platform.
Today, out of curiosity, I had a quick count: my feed was 90% "for you", "follow", "join", and 10% posts from people in my circle of friends.
I don't know if my friends don't post anymore, or if the algorithm prefers not to display their posts.
It's a bit ranty towards the end, but there's some fascinating insights here into shifting sands of the ZuckerBorg's metrics, FarceBook enshittification, and so on:
What the hell, where does the sudden #enshittification on #Startpage come from? There even are two additional "sponsored" entries on the bottom of the page, barely more results than ads. Doesn't get caught by µBlock Origin or another addon either.
Time to move to a better search provider. Probably a self-hosted one.
Created this after reading conversation in comments below some tech article somewhere. Someone mentioned "surfing the #internet sewer" and I really liked that phrase.
This article nicely sums up my suspicion about the state of 'Xwitter'…
"Twitter is now a siloed attention roulette machine just like TikTok. That was the plan when Elon took over and they succeeded. There's no going back."
How much would it cost in HW and bandwidth to replicate the original Google search? (Just crawl, index, search the index, display results. Only text in v1.)
I suspect it wouldn't be too expensive.
We could implement this, slap some collective QA on top of it, crowdfund the servers.
So if you have #Recall installed, always make sure you have a media player window open, playing some DRMed content, I dunno, Disney’s Frozen or some such. Paused, perhaps, or you’ll start losing it. Then it won’t record you. #LetItGo#Microsoft#Enshittification
Starting to get sick of this stuff, Brave. I should not be trying to figure how to turn this off, because it should never have turned on without asking me first. #enshittification#ai
Well our dishwasher that I bought a year and a half ago has started giving us a "failure to drain" message. My husband has disassembled it and the motors are working fine. Nothing is clogged up. Maybe it's the electronic controller. Why do modern appliances suck so bad? I'm about to just start washing dishes by hand I'm not buying another one. #Enshittification
Yesterday, I replied to a question in the Godot forum with a wrong answer (since I misunderstood the question at first). Today, if you google "godot delete pattern", that answer will be displayed as a "featured snippet" right on top. 🙄 (The correct answer is in the same thread, but so far Google hasn't picked up on it)
Google, Apple, Microsoft, and Meta while shove AI down your throat whether you like it or not. If you want to do anything on the Internet, you will HAVE to use AI.
Cory Doctorow was right. The Enshittification is here.
