Kevin Roose so desperately wants to live in the futures tech companies are selling that he’ll eagerly do their PR for them and buy into whatever illusions of intelligence they put in front of him so he can trick himself into believing they’ll actually be realized this time.

"Within a day of his ousting, Altman said he received 10 to 20 texts from presidents and prime ministers around the world. [...] He responded to the messages and thanked the leaders without feeling fazed."

I'm not sure getting so much support from world leaders is something I'd brag about. I interpret it as being an asset or a pawn to some really shady things they often do at the expense of human rights - things Altman's AI and crypto projects are surely enabling.

Residents of 21 cities in Utah have access to some of the fastest, most competitively priced broadband in the US, at speeds up to 10gb/s and prices as low as $75/month. It's uncapped, and the connections are symmetrical: perfect for uploading and downloading. And it's all thanks to the government.

Cross-examination of resumes, an opportunity for the defense to poke holes in his testimony & perhaps trip up or provoke the state’s key witness. The questioning of Cohen, ’s fmr fixer, is the beginning of the end of Trump’s trial, which began April 15 & might conclude before Memorial Day weekend at this pace.

The vast majority of “business” books can best be categorised as notes on winning a lottery. You’ll get a good deal more value from biographies, history books or a good novel.

Evan that may be too generous. Most business books are written by people who were given the winning lottery ticket by their parents.

I'm old enough to remember how @creativecommons was founded as a way for independent creators to safely share their work and build upon each other.

In 2024, their take is now "billion dollar companies plagiarizing your art is fair use".

Hats off to the author, you don't see that kind of, uh, skillful rhetoric chicanery every day. Like "generative AI doesn't compete with artists because artists are not in the data market". 😬
