After watching OpenAI's presentation and, even more, an excerpt from Google's presentation yesterday, I asked myself: is this AI, according to the big tech companies (especially Google - for OpenAI it's their core business, so I understand their perspective), truly what users want and need, or is it just another method to lock people into using their technologies, which are not easily self-hostable?
I'm not arguing for or against it, but I noticed that (almost) the entire Google I/O yesterday was focused on this...
#AI#GenerativeAI#OpenAI#GPT4o: "The smooth interactivity that OpenAI has laboured hard to enable does well to paper over the cracks of the underlying technology. When ChatGPT first elbowed its way noisily into our lives in November 2022, those who had been following the technology for decades pointed out that AI in its current form was little more than snazzy pattern-matching technology – but they were drowned out by the excited masses. The next step towards human-like interaction is only going to amplify the din.
That’s great news for OpenAI, a company already valued at more than $80bn, and with investment from the likes of Microsoft. Its CEO, Sam Altman, tweeted last week that GPT-4o “feels like magic to me”. It’s also good news for others in the AI space, who are capitalising on the ubiquity of the technology and layering it into every aspect of our lives. Microsoft Word and PowerPoint now come with generative AI tools folded into them. Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is putting its AI chatbot assistant into its apps in many countries, much to some users’ chagrin.
But it’s less good for ordinary users. Less friction between asking an AI system to do something and it actually completing the task is good for ease of use, but it also helps us forget that we’re not interacting with sentient beings. We need to remember that, because AI is not infallible; it comes with biases and environmental issues, and reflects the interests of its makers. These pressing issues are explored in my book, and the experts I spoke to tell me they represent significant concerns for the future." https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/article/2024/may/14/chat-gtp-40-ai-human-corporate-product
Wie verdient #OpenAI mit #chatgpt4o Geld? Was passiert mit den Stimm- und Videodaten der User? Welche Daten werden da gespeichert? Wie kann ich die Daten einsehen, ändern oder löschen? 🤔
I'm looking forward to try #Gpt4O from #OpenAI. Interesting, will there be times when I get my true personal assistant? I've been dreaming about a virtual assistant from my childhood literally :)
It's allowed to say swears, who in their right mind thinks that we should allow software with swears in them in this day and age? I personally don't, so I'll wait until they've got all the unprofessional language out.
Funny how the "frequently asked questions" for the #StackOverflow#OpenAI thing does not list the question "How do I opt out of this?" (nor the answer to it).
#Anthropic is killing it with their AI game, especially for a small startup. Their models are way better than #OpenAI's, but they're focusing more on enterprise stuff rather than hyping it up. This might be a risky move since they don't have a cult following like other AI companies. Still, gotta give them props for their impressive tech. It'll be interesting to see how they balance enterprise with getting more attention from the AI community.
just glanced at this #openai tag and imagining if we applied this level of innovation and resources to neighborhood scale organic food systems or healing generational trauma
“#OpenAI has presumably pivoted to new features precisely because they don’t know how to produce the kind of capability advance that the “exponential improvement” would have predicted”
Friendly reminder: Everything that this new #OpenAI camera assistant / modell can recognize and diagnose will be in shortterm future in all #cameras in public spaces everywhere …
