Proposal.

We continue to call trees trees, but when they're really tall we indicate that linguistically by elongating the word.

Here, for example, we have a very splendid treeeeeeeeeeeeee.

(this might be a sign for me to step away from the computer for a while, later lovelies!)

#photography #trees #treeeeeeeeeeeeee #Scotland

menelion,
@menelion@dragonscave.space avatar

@eclectech Then if a tree is lower than a set point, say, a meter to a meter and a half (3 to 5 feet), we'd just call it a tre. Like: Some young tres were planted in our neighborhood, they are so funny beside those high treeeeeees!

I'm not a very big movie watcher. But last night when we were out with friends. We saw the movie Her starring Scarlett Johansson. It was absolutely wonderful! I quite enjoyed it. It's definitely some food for thought.

@NightDrake Yes, I heard a lot about this movie actually.

@NightDrake Is it available somewhere on streaming services?

Well, officially in the market for a Slack replacement now. Hit me. What are you personally happy with in a small business setting, strong macOS/iOS support, user friendly, including nontechnical folks?

menelion,
@menelion@dragonscave.space avatar

@janl TL;DR: Nothing. If you don't care about accessibility for screen reader users, try Mattermost though.

menelion,
@menelion@dragonscave.space avatar

@r343l @janl I don't see them worsening accessibility, although I stopped using Slack for daily work starting this February, before I'd been using it for four years daily and hopefully will start again soonish. As I've said, there is no alternative known to me. I tested Mattermost, but it's a disaster accessibility-wise, Matrix also. I know some blind people using Matrix, but I had no luck in it at al: constant focus jumping, unintuitive interface, all the goodies of a poorly accessible app.

Dear community! Could someone with power please raise an RFC to make the strict parameter of the in_array() built-in function true by default? It's really annoying to remember putting true as the third parameter every time, and not doing it might potentially lead to weird bugs. Thanks!

menelion,
@menelion@dragonscave.space avatar

@Crell Then at least for version 9 maybe? BTW, I'm honored to receive a reply from you, Larry. Are there any justified uses of false there, maybe you know better than me?

menelion,
@menelion@dragonscave.space avatar

@ntha Unfortunately, it's a super old frameworkless codebase. Imagine that I have to bring it from 5.6 straight to 8.2.

menelion,
@menelion@dragonscave.space avatar

I finally found something I don't like about ESpeak: it says "mister" when it reads "mr", regardless of whether there's a period after the r. My company recently switched to Gitlab, so merge requests are now a common topic of text-based conversation. "I'm having trouble creating an mister for this." "Can you make an mister for that?" "Let me go approve that mister."

menelion,
@menelion@dragonscave.space avatar

@fireborn @alexhall @Tamasg Yes, it is.

моя кошка учится говорить..

она однажды сказала 'мама'

потом в другой день 'муу'

а сегодня произнесла что-то похожее на 'нет'

ожидает ли нас эра кошколюдей? я не знаю..

menelion,
@menelion@dragonscave.space avatar

Question to , , & folks:

How do you feel about duplicate links in articles, blogs, whatever? Meaning: A certain word is a link (let's say "HEALTH") leading to an external website.

Would it annoy you if this word was always a link and it's mentioned for example 20 times in an article? Or would you rather have it only once to make it easier to scan for links?

Is there a related success criteria?

menelion,
@menelion@dragonscave.space avatar

@stvfrnzl I'd be definitely annoyed. I would make it a link in the beginning, somewhere in the middle and towards the end of the article, but I've never heard about a standard for those. // CC @aardrian

If I had a dollar for every time someone says Mary when refurring to May, and I am not talking average everyday people, I am talking companies, we would have already paid off this trailer! Holy christ! Say it with me people, May, May, M,a,y! It isn't Mary. Whats worse is a lot of times people are looking at the name too! This isn't just someone mispronouncing a name either. That I could understand, as it happens with me all the time, although how could you mispronounce May? just wow!

menelion,
@menelion@dragonscave.space avatar

@MariahL @JamminJerry But you are ma-Rie-uh, right? I mean, the I in your name is pronounced like eye, right? If not, I'm sorry. I always thought that if there is an H at the end, then the I is pronounced Eye, and if there is no H, then it's Ee.

I've never used signal or Telegram. the accessibility of both is appalling.

menelion,
@menelion@dragonscave.space avatar

@KaraLG84 For Telegram it is not. As it has an extensive API allowing to write third-party clients, we have at least Unigram (mainstream) and TweeseCake (blind-specific) for Windows. There are also some third-party apps for Android. I use Telegram every day.

menelion,
@menelion@dragonscave.space avatar

@zersiax @KaraLG84 I remember Trying Signal on desktop, didn't like it, maybe something changed.

menelion,
@menelion@dragonscave.space avatar

@zersiax @KaraLG84 Oh yeah, I give MS Teams as an example of what is nearly 100% accessible but totally unusable.

menelion,
@menelion@dragonscave.space avatar

@zersiax @KaraLG84 No no, sure sure, it can be used of course. By "unusable" I mean "inconvenient". and also, if you try using their so-called channels and teams, you will feel pain in your whole body. Slack know how to do channels right, Microsoft… unfortunately, not.

@cariefisher Hi again Carie! I was skimming through the comments on that discussion I created for multiline comments accessibility. And I wanted to bring one more thing: first, it would be nice to add it to the accessibility category. And second, the Accessibility category itself is a nightmare of a mess: lots of scam, lots of off-topic discussions. I'd be glad to help in cleaning this, but of course I have no access to do that.
