In a recent episode of This Week in Google, @jeffjarvis cites Wikipedia, Craigslist Reddit and WordPress as examples of the web done fairly right. I think Mastodon and the Fediverse also have a chance to be long term examples of the web done right.

Dropped by Bluesky for the first time in a while. I'm a Fediperson but still have sympathy with what they're trying to do, and the tone seems to have stabilized for the moment.

Anyhow, I have 30 invites that I haven't thought about in a while, so, giving them away. Reply to this post if you want one. In case that's more than 30 people I will invent totally arbitrary and questionably fair criteria for handing them out.

Maybe stop if there are already a huge number of replies.

BTW, I think Trump's news today on federal criminal charges, was the third out of three breaking news stories in the past 3 months that I learned about first on the , and got well informed quickly by credible news sources here. Whereas pre-Elon that role would have been . Frankly that breaking news source would have been the ONE thing Twitter was still uniquely good for then.

@tchambers I hit the "These are the posts gaining traction in your corner of Mastodon" area often for breaking news. Is very useful but I wouldn't mind if there was a custom algorithm I could choose that would just inject those into my primary feed.
