scary lawyerguy:

Of the many double standards employed by the media, Biden needing every speech to be some combination of Lincoln and Cicero while Trump's public appearances are 90 minutes of word salad, non sequiturs, and dictatorial musings that get no push back, is among the worst.

mastodonmigration,
@mastodonmigration@mastodon.online avatar

@michelemccarthy

This is such a smart take. If Biden put on foot wrong they will be all over him, meanwhile Trump is a raving lunatic and the ignore his daily meltdowns and 'summarize' his nonsense adding coherence to it.

mastodonmigration,
@mastodonmigration@mastodon.online avatar

@gentrifiedrose @michelemccarthy

This is BS. Did you watch the State of the Union? Biden is a superb public speaker. He stumbles over words occasionally stemming from a mild stutter, but the substance of his speeches is solid and the policies he advocates are substantive. There is no comparison.

Well y'all, this past week I have seen my first in the wild. And this morning I saw my second cybertruck in the wild.

Swell.

They look just as boxy, ugly, out-of-place, and pretentious in person as they do in pictures.

First in , second in , which is separated from by one street. So there is the chance it was the same vehicle. I sincerely hope so. It just pains me to think that there might be two such complete, unadulterated fools in this area.

Seen a few in Silicon Valley and one in SF. Always try to get a hard look at the driver and try to imagine what sort of thought process 'drives' someone into making such a decision.

@courtcan

Maybe. ๐Ÿคท

Edit: Or perhaps they are just big fans of bad 1980s SF films.

Tomorrow in the Trump election fraud trial, Cohen's cross examination will conclude. The usual suspects on TV will offer their hot takes as to whether the defense 'scored points' or 'dirtied up Cohen' successfully.

Let's try to stay focused on the facts, not some kind of sports coverage analogy.

Bottom line is going to be, did Trump approve "grossing up" Cohen's payment, thereby commiting fraud, as shown in this piece of hard evidence, the Cohen bank statement with Weisseberg's notes?

mastodonmigration,
@mastodonmigration@mastodon.online avatar

Continued...

And, did he do it in order to hide the payment so as to get elected president.

These are the facts that the defense has to create reasonable doubt about.

Hi, Fediverse:

Whew. I finished this week's blog post. Do your thing, Mastodon.

https://terikanefield.com/beware-the-lawyers-follow-up/

It's a follow up from last week, answering some of the questions and comments I got.

In response to people telling me that I am overestimating the ability of people to decode legal news, I attempt to prove this hypothesis:

If people stop listening to legal pundits speculating, they wouldnโ€™t feel confused and they wouldnโ€™t think they need help from lawyers decoding the news.

@Teri_Kanefield

Thanks Teri. Good tonic for the week ahead. It's been fascinating to contrast the testimony in the Trump election fraud trial with the TV pundit analysis. Your timely advice that we make every effort to distinguish hard facts from opinion and speculation is going to be put to the acid test over the next few days.

Most of us knew of the totally fealty from Habberman and Chris Cuomo However I'm just learning about Katy Tur who Nancy Pelosi called out two weeks ago about Trump's lies.

Yup, Katy covered the campaign and even though she suffered terrible abuse she has always been in thrall.

Maybe some of that. Always got the feeling she was just another access reporter, willing to do their bidding to be allowed inside the tent. The worse they treated her, the more she pandered to them.

Definitely some astro tech bro attitude:

"Up until now, there's only been, you know, one group that would ever touch Hubble. And I think that they have an opinion of whether โ€” of who should or shouldn't be allowed to touch it," Isaacman said. "I think a lot would say, 'I'd rather it burn up' than, you know, go down a slippery slope of, you know, the space community growing. So I think that's a factor now, unfortunately."

So now SpaceX, with no working spacesuit, and years behind on it's multi-billion dollar moon lander, is lobbying NASA to go to the Hubble Space Telescope.

"A successful private mission could improve Hubble's ability to point at celestial objects and, by boosting its orbit, extend its life by years... however, an accident could leave the multibillion-dollar telescope broken โ€” or, even more tragically, tethered to the dead bodies of the astronauts sent to repair it."

Indeed, not to mention the increased probability of a Kessler Syndrome event, closing off space for decades, with disparate uncoordinated masses of satellites zooming around trying to avoid each other.

So, over in the astronomy world there is some consternation about a tweet from eminent satellite tracker Jonathan McDowell.

Apparently "Starlink Precipitation" is now a thing. And yes, you got that right, Starlink precipitation is pieces of Elon Musk's fucking internet satellites raining down from space.
