You are driving a #germany 🇩🇪 car to an #Italian 🇮🇹 coffeeshop to drink Brazilian 🇧🇷 #coffee and then going home buying #Chinese 🇨🇳 takeaway to sit on a #Swedish 🇸🇪 sofa in front of a #Korean 🇰🇷 TV to watch #us 🇺🇸 shows and all the while being complain your neighbor is an #immigrant
For more context, people in China have been assembling plain white bread sandwiches to try to understand how we live in this part of the world, and they are posting through it (the idea of eating anything cold or raw, especially a vegetable, is seen as especially disgusting in the Chinese world, with some exceptions)
We were just having a normal conversation under the warm Adelaide sun when she said, “I hate Chinese people. Hate them.”
I stared at her, wondering if she realised that I am Chinese.
I rarely write about #politics but I feel it’s important to describe the impact of rising #USChinaTensions on a “normie” member of the #Chinese diaspora. It's this: Sheer, utter frustration and exasperation.
#TodayILearned that the delicious Mexican fruit sauce #Chamoy probably derives its name and recipe from the #Philippines’ “kiamoy”, which is a fruit sauce made with the same recipe. That recipe was in turn derived from a #Hokkien#Chinese recipe brought by Chinese immigrants, who called it 鹹梅 “kiam-mui” (literally: salted plums).
As a Hokkien descendant who loves #Mexican#fruit salads, this makes me happy.
If you're wondering what the impact of the ever growing market share of #Chinese built #electriccars means for the UK's automotive industry, here's the BBC Faisal Islam on how it might play out;
headline; the UK-based e-vehicle sector may have already missed the boat.
As he concludes: 'The more immediate question for Britain is whether we go for cheaper Chinese imports to aid mass adoption of a key net zero technology, or prioritise domestic production'!

Hardly ever see an economy rice shop serve something so fancy - this is called "yam ring" or "yam basket" and is usually found in Chinese restaurants where they cook dishes to order.
It is basically made from a ring of fried yam and is filled with chunks of chicken in sauce.
I wonder if they serve this in Chinese restaurants in other countries 🤔

Some estimates suggest that after years of playing around with the GDP deflator (by which nominal GDP, is 'corrected' for #inflation), the #Chinese economy, measured in GDP terms is around 20% smaller than official Govt. data indicates.
Given questions about a pivot to the East & how the global economy is rebalancing in the new millennium, this might offer a pause for thought for those basing their geopolitical models & strategies on global GDP distribution.

#Nitrocellulose, also known as guncotton, is a key ingredient in gunpowder manufacture.
"Would you know it, deliveries of this cotton from #China stopped as if by chance a few months ago"
#Nordic countries have found a substitute for the #Chinese cotton... innovation is at work, precisely to meet the need for powder, because... we have problems today with powder capacity".
"In recent decades, candidates for political office in San Francisco have developed a tradition of finding an “authentic” Chinese name to put on ballots. In the past, the process was somewhat freewheeling, in which non-Chinese candidates were more or less allowed to call themselves whatever they wanted. But the rules are tightening."
#Taiwan President-Elect Marks 228 Anniversary: William Lai attended a 228 memorial marking a bloody conflict in his island’s history. “It was the biggest mistake of the country and its government in Taiwan’s history,” he said.
What happened: On Feb 28, 1947, the ruling party, KMT, opened fire on protesters and announced martial law for the next 40 years. According to an incident report from 1992, the death toll for local #Taiwanese and #Chinese immigrants is over 18,000.
