As caregivers, we need each other. We need empathy without pity. We need advice without judgment. We need friendship without expectations.

'Because of saneism, mad people are often denied the ability to define their own experience — as evidenced by the push to cure autistic people of something much of the community doesn’t view as a disease. Of her own experience, Yakas said that the messaging she received was, “I have a broken brain. Nothing that I’m saying is real. Everything is irrational.” '

This #Mississippi Hospital Transfers Some Patients to Jail to Await #MentalHealth Treatment

Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto doesn’t have a psychiatric unit, so it sends patients elsewhere for mental health treatment.

When publicly funded facilities are full, some patients go to jail to wait for help.

One doctor said that’s “unthinkable.”

Reading about #NarrativeTherapy, of which I knew very little and am learning much, but never expected to end up reading about #Foucault and #neoliberalism as the theoretical underpinnings of this practice. It makes me hopeful for my future as a #MentalHealth therapist.

Quote from #JohnWinslade: Neoliberalism transforms people into less #democratic, more governable, docile, more consuming, neoliberal subjects who nevertheless believe themselves to be free because they have consumer “choice.”

>>> cont’d…

I’m just going to put the whole quote here. It’s from a handout in a workshop he did with the #Vancouver School for Narrative Therapy (2016), from the book Narrative Therapy (2nd ed.), by Stephen Madigan:

Oh, and just checked my email - to find an organisation I sometimes have #MentalHealth dealings with has just managed to have a bloody wonderful privacy breach, managing to send out a newsletter with everybody’s email addresses exposed. I am Not Happy. They “sincerely apologised” but that’s hardly the point, is it?

I go to this spot some evenings to get away and help my mind decompress and untangle.

It's at the top of a local hill.

A few other people go there too, I suspect for the same reason as they are always peaceful and calm, watching the sea and sun, some chomping on a sandwich or sipping from a thermos.

Swift debugging driving me nuts. #helpMe

I have a multiline file that I’ve loaded into a string using String(contentsOfFile:encoding:)

I'm trying to split the string using “someString.components(separatedBy: "==========\n“)

But it... just doesn’t. I know that particular string does exist in the file multiple times.

If I change the separator to just a linefeed it does split the file into 1600 items just fine. So for some reason it's not finding the "==========\n“ ?

I'm stumped.

I’ve been journaling my daily work using Logseq for the past year or so. It has transformed how I work. It’s a log of the little wins I’ve tackled, notes on what was the route to success, and links to where the solution is, whether that is a Confluence doc, a PR on GitHub.

It is also a “memorium pool”, I no longer have to stress about remembering things. It has a powerful note linking mechanism that is automatic, I can find related notes easily and visualise how they are related to each other.

If something comes up during the day, I can tag it as /TODO and it will add that note on a calendar view so I can quickly glance if I have things I need to take care next week.

Give it a go. Remind yourself you win every day. Remind yourself that things do take time. Remind yourself that what you do today matters.

This post is not sponsored. It’s just me grateful for open-source. Want start your journaling today? Go here: https://logseq.com/

💔 Daily Early Morning Worry 💔

one of my clinical anxiety syndromes [1] manifests a binary symptom, which I've termed “impaired focal-state partial blindness upon waking”.

Let's play "Choose Your Own Adventure" this morning!

  1. Non-Critical: temporary medication effect (multi-rx additive symptoms)

  2. Critical: direct effect of hypophysis-cerebri tumor growth, ocular-nerve compression inducing eyesight loss (partial/full) 🧠

Lets talk about myself for a change because I should put myself out more.

I've become 36 years old today. I strongly prefer this new year to be better than last. I went through a divorce, got into a depression and only recently started to love myself again. I do not wish this upon anyone.

I'm picking myself as the priority from now on. I will have fun again and find passion projects. I'll take care of myself, my surroundings and my kids. All other stuff comes after this.

Don't plan to but even w/ meds I've been in hospital twice this year. One added a bad med, the other a decent med. But dinner is still 8 pills of 4 meds, and breakfast is 5-6 pills of 4 meds.

It gets old, not helped by ads for meds that specifically treat bipolar I/II with mixed episodes.

📋ADHDers love curating Reading Lists to stay on track.

🫣Going back to them, though, is another story.

Have you tried giving yourself little rewards when you check off read items from the list? Because they totally count as mini victories! 🥳

It's true that neurodivergent minds are energized and motivated when they set and execute goals, gain achievements, communicate, create, strategize, innovate, or serve and connect with people.

But the constant whirlwind of killer ideas and endless possibilities, without the reigns of process, structure, and execution, can get debilitating.

🧰 To help you crush those distractions, we've curated a list of helpful tools available for you to use on our browser.

Building systems and leveraging productivity tools can set you up for success and manage your scattered thoughts.

Our built-in Reading List is one such example, read the blog for more👇

@Vivaldi The built in reading list is an amazing feature. Recently you've added the ability to share links directly to the reading list, which is a fantastic addition. I love being able to add a link from any app (usually my feed reader) on my phone easily to the reading list and just pick it up and read it next time I'm on my computer or tablet.

Your grampa is smart! That’s part of Stoic philosophy that Epictetus was talking about thousands of years ago.

I was just sharing that recently with someone who was nervous: if you worry and it doesn’t happen, you worried for nothing. So don’t worry. You can deal with shit when it happens.
